yeah the 20-40 is a perfect fit in the xf, the small raised ring on the front of the motor fits perfectly in the XF so everything is centered, I had to knock a little of each blade though on the impeller to get it to spin freely, works great now though...

flew the XF fan diablo again today, 3 packs of success, got a nice calm day and I must say I'm impressed with the XF...very noticable gain, in power and flight time...as soon as it get moving 15-20mph the XF comes alive and cruises well...when the pack got a little low I climbed to 60-80 feet and cruised for another 5-10 minutes before landing...Im starting to like this plane more but I'm still converting to a stryker when my parts all arrive...

Vertical: I have another question, will the fan adapter that comes with the hyperflow fit into an XF fan or do you need the one it comes with, what Im getting at is that a ammo motor like I use has a 2mm shaft and I believe the XF comes with a 2.3mm shaft to fan connector. Or can I get an adapter for the XF fan that will fit a 2mm shaft?

you cannot get one, I used a prop adapter which actually worked better cause I now have nice cone on front of the rotor, not sure the brand though...heres a pic...spins very true...the rotor sits right on the taper to pinch the adapter on the shaft rather then the special washer youd use with a standard prop...I am eventually going the a jetscreamer though anyway...

So is the motor shaft a 2.3mm on the Xf you are using right now? and what about the jetscreamer?

that adapter with the XF is 3mm, the jsetscreamer is also 3mm, they also sell a 2.3mm adapter for the xf which i bought with it and the accessory kit, they have a new 56mm fan listed on hobby-lobby now too, that I may check into a bit more...looks like you can make 15 oz. thrust at only 16amps with the new fan, impeller is similar to the XF so the motor they suggest for then new fan would work also, but the jetscreamer is an outrunner like the wicked extreme which is a big plus IMO because of cooling and effiency

heres the stryker, almost done, just need to add the other servo and get some servo extensions, came out nice, made funtional cooling scoops for the battery...fan mounted like it was meant to be there, just took a little cutting...oh and the diablo w/tactic radio system is gonna become a propjet with my rimfire outrunner up front pulling it...with power to go straight up it should fly nicely, wont be fast, gonna use an 8x6 slo-fly prop...should be a nice dependable machine though...

Vertical,
Looking Good. Keep me posted on how it does. I'm still waiting on my fan to come in before I do anything else with mine. Are you planing on leaving white? I did mine flourescent orange on top and black on bottom. I flew a stock stryker last week with the standard paint scheme and about lost it. It was very difficult to tell orientation.
The proped diablo should be interesting also. Look forward to hearing the results of the stryker. If the fan pushes it like I think it's going to it should be a blast to fly. Great Speed when you want it but the ability to almost soar power off for lazy flying.

One more thing vertical. Can you post a few pictures of how you mounted the fan? Did you reinforce the fuse or just bolt through it? I used the stock motor mount and modified it for the fan. I got 4 screws through the fuse into the lower mount and it still tourqed pretty bad. I'd hate to see you lose a fan.

the XF fan has a mount that bolts to a square hardwood piece thats about 4 incheds long, there is a slot for the wires to travel to the motor in the stryker so I extended that back and just stuck it in with some CA glue, I flew a whole pack through the diablo with a piece of ductape holding the fan on so it should be fine...it tourques some but I see it as a benefit cause its free to move a little bit rather then transmit it into the plane...it tourques when you juice it but straightens back out once its upto speed...

How much does the Stryker weight, and how much room is there in the battery compartment? Big enought to hold a 3s2p lipo pack? I have a WeMo Minifan 480 with HET 2W. I get about 450 watts out, 985g of thrust ~ 2 pounds. I am slowly working on a design, but the stryker looks like a cheap and easy alternative.

the stryker has plenty of room because its so thick you can remove foam to fit your needs, my electrifly packs which are 3s 1500mah packs fit well with minor amounts of foam removed...maidened it today, flew good, slow but I expected that, its so nice cause it will fly as fast as anything with my setup but also will slow down to land, floats like a glider on approach...awesome airframe...also guys I flew the prop diablo...what a performer, used a 9x3.8 prop in the nose with my rimfire motor...easily went vertical...I put it together to get my dad back into flying, about 10 years or more ago he was a hotshot pilot, used to maiden peoples planes setup helis, and I have seen him fly through a whole tank of fuel inverted on a .40 size pattern plane, 100mph knife edge passes with the same plane...taught me alot about building and setups, but its been awhile and the diablo got planted, so I rebuilt it now with ailerons in the begginer wing, then we'll slowly step it up to the advanced wings again...good setup though for anyone with a spare diablo laying around...

heres the prop powered diablo...its beat, but its now the best flying it has ever been, it will go vertical without a question, loops, rolls, invert, all are good...its flying on modified beginner wings, they have ailerons and the tips have been removed...I flew it on the advanced wings also with the prop and it worked very well...so I'll switch it back in a few weeks since its now my dads plane, I flew it in 20mph gusting winds today without issues, great plane now...

vertical,

you might want to switch to a folding prop. You'll probably have more fun with a prop diablo than an edf diablo. If I still had mine i would probably do the same. good work. Gary

thanks, this motor has a built in prop saver so it can fold under on landing...planes flys easily on 1/2 throttle on a calm day...its already more fun, and the EDF stryker really puts the diablo to shame, it flys so well I dont feel the need to upgrade the motor for another couple months...where the diablo would slow down and fall out of the air the stryker just keeps flying, slow or fast, and is always controllable
