Erik St: The problem with the plane on that video really was me. I did not understand how to properly CG the plane yet. But it flew like it did because it was tail heavy in a big way.

Aniaml acker: You can get a cheap diablo from Tower Hobbies Scratch & Dent site.
Do you want to stay with an EDF jet or get something with a prop or go gas?

Take your vector plastes off when you switch to top mount motor. I forgot to say that in the video.

I have not noticed near as many radio glitches since I installed my motor on top. Could it be that the motor pod on the bottom was the major cause of the glitching/blanking? Anyone noticing the same thing?

He guys: Meant to say it would do a loop in level flight with the pod on top and thrust dealie taken off. Makes no difference as far as the canopy disrupting airflow since it is smooth. I flattened the wing out by taking the dihedral out of the outboard section and added ailerons. The performance was just slightly better. I think it would make a good glider. It would not roll unless it got up lots of speed and was way high. As far as glitches, it's the radio, not the plane. I'm flying mine with a Futaba 9C and have had no problems. BTW, the T-28 is a great plane. Rock solid in the air, looks good and a good deal.

BRUSHLESS UPGRADE: WOW! I put in a 4850kv el-cheapo form hobbycity ($16) and 30amp ESC ($9.75). It sounded so amazing, felt so powerful, I figured something would go wrong. It did.

When removing the old motor, the CA helping hold it in place required some prying, during which I damaged some of the plastic inner fan motor mount. I hooked up this litle screamer (which requires M2.5 BTW and good luck finding those, sadly they did not come with my motor), and gave it a whirl.

It was fast, numerous loops from level, I'd say %60 throttle was the same as WOT with brushed motor. I flew two batteries and each time after landing realized how tense and jittery this 50,000+ RPM (claculated-no-load) flight was making me; just great.

I will say however, from about %90 throttle and higher it just seemed to make more noise and vibration, and no more clean thrust. That may be because upon inspecton the motor was askew, blades crooked, and 3 motor wires twisted up tighter than, ahh, tighter than, I don't have and good 'isims", they were just twisted. So I can only guess the motor ripped out of the motor mount.

Time to fix, that was well worth it so far.

Idealhobbies: The result of the crash was my hotdogging, plane and simple. I was showing off and got burned. I have flown this thing more times than I can count, my back yard is a big field as well as my place of employement. I was doing low level passes trying to frighten my girlfriend. (It was rather funny) then I thought I woould do an inverted fly by but I misjudged a nearby tree.
northchim: I have for the most part resurrected the old beast, tonight I got the last wing down from the tree with a big stick and some luck. And numerous throws. I want to stay with a jet, electric. I went to the hobby store and had a long chat. Learned about how batteries work in relation to the motor. Oh and my brushless ammo 20-40-3500, is ruined, I broke the shaft off in the crash. It was quite a doozy. Luckily business is slow at the shop so the owner is ready to make some deals. we shall see what comes of this.

I've had troubles with the upgrade , I figured it out eventually, the motor was not spinning in the mount; the entire HyperFlow was spinning; not enough glue for the upgrade! I hope I used enough epoxy on the second go-round. I'll let you know. Those poor wires were all wround up!.

I ordered another Diablo from Tower's scratch & dent along with the advanced wings. I also got the Ammo 24-45-3790 with the SS35 speed control. I plan on running a 4s LiPo. I think this will be a strong combination.

I'm going to play around with some wing designs just for fun.

Animal.... I'd say go for the Parkzone T28. It's a great plane. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

Man am I glad I found this thread. Been out of the hobby for about 20 years but lately have been getting that urge to fly. Bought my diablo from my LHS about 3 weeks ago and home to the workbench for assembly. I was extremely dissapointed with the construction after seeing the promo videos but it's too late now, I gotta fly something. Assemble and wait for good weather to fly. Finally a few days later a calm morning so I throw it in the back of the truck and head out to a field for some flying. After a quick radio check I launch and away we go. Slow climb to about 100' then start a slow left turn, looks good so far, I think I actually remember how to fly. Whoa, a sharp right turn and dive with no control whatsoever. Maybe I don't remember. After recovery I find a broken wing and pod full of mud. Oh well, repairing is half the fun. Back on the bench, 30 minutes, some CA and Epoxy, change the throw on the servos and I'm ready again. Later that afternoon back out again. Uh-Oh, wind. Should I or not? hmmmm Why not, I've got lot's of CA. Radio check ok, Lauch and off we go. Wow this thing moves on the downwind, and climbs on the upwind. 4 circuits and in for a somewhat awkward landing. Hey, It's still in one piece. 2 more sucessful flights and suddenly that 10mph wind gust to 20. I'm not that good yet. Survey the damage to find more than a quick field repair. Broken wing, nose cone, pod full of grass and dirt, elevator, and fuse. Back to the bench more CA and Epoxy and she's ready again. 2 weeks later and finally on Sunday morning it's calm sunny. Off to the field, to find a muck of mud from melted snow. Oh well, I've got my boots. Launch and here we go. 4 sucessful flights with no mis-haps other than a pod full of mud on each landing. I gotta get another battery. Back to the truck to recharge, might as well go for a soda while I wait. Sunday afternoon I'm charged and ready for another flight. Might as well take my son and show off a little. Watch this son. Lauch, Climb, 50', Dive, Splash, right in a mud-hole! Glitch? hmmmmm Uh-oh. Lots of pieces, broken fuse, wings, pod, tail, canopy. Son thought that was cool. Back home at the bench Lots of Glue and Tape, 30 minutes digging mud out of the pod and it's back together. Too late to fly but let's power it up and check the radio. Uh-oh. I didn't realize the motor had smoke in it. Apparently it's pretty important too because after I let it out it doesn't work any longer. I'm guessing the motor isn't sealed and took on some water from the. LHS is closed for the week so I'm in out of comission for the week. Too the computer to see what I can learn. Luckily I find this thread and learn all kinds of interesting things.

1.) Scratch and Dent is the way to buy. (Got one on the way will be here tomorrow)
2.) Glitches in this radio is common and maybe all the crashes weren't my fault.
3.) Pod on top is the only way to go. (already made the mod to my plane just waiting for my kit to get here so I have a good pod)
4.) Always do lot's of research online before making those impulse purchases. (already looking at .40 trainers)
5.) This hobby is still a blast.

Anyway, for those few that actually made it this far in this long and boring post I appreciate all of the info posted here and look forward to getting back in the air with my new mod's for some action packed afternoon flying later this week. I will definately be checking back here for updates and will keep everyone posted (with shorter to the point post) of my adventures.

Happy Flying!!!!!!!!!!!

Sparky

I chucked the whole radio and am using a receiver that I fly with my bigger stuff. The original radio did work though. I sold it on Ebay and got 13 bucks. What does that say for it?

paul daniel: Doesn't say much for the radio at all. $13 is probably more money than what is cost hobbico to purchase it.

Sparky: welcome aboard. We know how it feels.
