Background:

I invited, Fred Midget, the "Creative Genius" behind HigherPlane Productions to spend the week filming the 2007 AMA Nationals this past July. I promised access to pre-event practice sessions, interviews with available pilots, attendance at the "Unknowns" meeting and hours and hours of pattern flights...Fred said yes, and brought his son for additional assistance!

For those of you unfamiliar with Fred's work...it is fantastic. Specifically, Fred captures the energy and spirit of the event with unique camera angles, editing, to allow you to experience the performance.

The "Film Festival" format includes a collection of short, down loadable videos with NATS coverage as a "Virtual Ticket" days 11/24, 11/25 and 11/26. My other favorite videos can be found on 11/20.

Coverage includes:

NATS Video Montage

"I need a cigarette"... Chip Hyde hovering his CHP Tunnel Vision THROUGH a pop-up tent...unbelievable!

Troy Newman flying the Oxai-Adventure biplane at the practice field with picture in picture of low...low...stuff!

Quique flying P-07 with his biplane in the windiest of windy conditions!

Sean McMurtry finals flight with his Oxai-Aries.

Brett Wickizer finals flight with his Oxai-Beryll.

In addition to the aforementioned videos, my personal favorites also are available and titled:

"Gernot Bruckman flies for HPP at the ETOC"...yes, I have his airplane in my work shop and it is awesome! Troy and I flew it in my driveway at dusk this past June.

"Let's Stay Right Here"...is a perfect mix of video, music, subject matter...my favorite!

Cost? I purchased a multi-month, as many viewings as I can stand "Virtual Ticket" for about $20.


I believe that HigherPlane Productions is in the process of editing a DVD of the 2007 NATS as well.

Question: I visited the www.higherplaneproductions.com site and I couldn't find what you were talking about?

Answer: It is confusing...you need to purchase a "virtual ticket" or "flightpass" for the HPP Film Festival, which is about $20 for a couple of months.

Here are screen shots of the NATS related videos...

The photo of the lovely young lady, the phone and myself is an interview discussing "how" and "why" the cell phone was...monokoted!

The following screen shot has nothing to do with pattern...I wonder how long before one runs "out of rudder"?

Status: offline 		I recently sent a couple emails back and forth with Fred and was told the NATS DVD isn't going to be made due to lack of interest

His work is great though, I've got a flightpass ticket and have enjoyed it since the shootout.

Little fix from what Rusty said as well: Sean actually flew his Naruke Astral all week. No big deal, just thought I'd mention.

Status: offline 		Hmmm...I had that same converstion with Fred as well. (I wonder how much interest is required?)

At any rate, he did offer this:

OK, now the GOOD news. There will be a release in late
2007 or early 2008 of a DVD called "Surf and Turf."
That DVD will be a compilation of Higher Plane Adventures in 2007 and will include highlights from the 2007 NATS. ;-)
