I just replaced the tail boom with a carbon fiber version.
When I put the belt back on, I think I put the twist on the belt in the wrong direction.
Viewed from the top rotating the main blades clockwise, should the tail blades rotate clockwise when viewed from the left side of the heli? Does it matter as long as the tail blades are on and moving in the right direction?
At any rate, I lost all tail control after the boom replacement, and everything reversed.

if you're looking at the tail from the side that the tail blades are actually on the blades should rotate counter clockwise, this is how the blades are designed to work. you could have them rotating clockwise but it's not as efficient and you'd have to take the blades off and put them on so the thicker side is leading (this is due to how an airfoil is designed).

Surprisingly, the tail blades are rotating counterclockwise when viewed from the side the blades are on.
The only other thing I did differently was put the vertical stabilizer on the same side of the boom as the tail blades (to keep it from interfering with the servo rod). Would this cause my problem? Would the gyro need the gain set differently after a CF tail boom install?

Sounds like your tail blades are spinning the right way. Have you checked to make sure your tail servo rod is not on the opposite side of the servo arm? Because that would reverse things. Or maybe you mounted the servo flipped when you put it on the new boom?

also, make sure the belt is on tight enough or you won't get enough rotation of the tail blades due to the belt slipping.

This is driving me nuts!
When I was reassembling the boom and belt I remember twisting the belt in the direction the book stated. But the problem with that was the tail blades weren't rotating correctly (or the same) as before disassembly. So I assumed it was the typical B.S. with the unintelligable owners manual. So I turned the belt opposite from the way the book says, then the tail was spinning in the right direction. Well now everything is reversed and I have no tail authority at all.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
