Spur gear and front diff placed in position. I had to really push the spur gear shaft hard into the motor mount so that it seats properly.

Also, the slipper kit is on its way from Japan now-so I didnt tighten the spur assembly nut all the way in.

Front differential also has the plastic part I was talking about in 'Number 6', to seal the drivetrain. Again, I smeared the ball diff with lots of diff grease, tightened it real good, double checked the tensioners were placed at the correct sides before I proceeded to the next step.......

The 'plastic part'. Here you can see the plastic chassis and how it's not the same shiny black plastic the DF03 has.

Motor is STILL not here - BPP had problems with shipping.

So what do you do when you're stuck with something? Move on - I'm not gonna wait for the motor to come! There's so much more to do!

They say the DB01 is based on the TRF501X. Which is why I was crazy enough to buy these and not knowing whether they will fit.

I dont know why Tamiya LOVES to use metal bearings. Upgraded to ball bearings for the steering arms and steering bridge.

If you do decide to buy these, take note that the steering arms and bridge already have ball bearings pressed into them.

Here is what forums are for - for people like me to complain that parts dont fit so that all of you wont make the same mistake.

There is no way in hell that the steering assembly will fit. One of the arms will not clear the middle part of the drivetrain.

I can't throw these away, can't sell 'em, so here is NauTamiya Hop-Up Part #00001: A hybrid of the stock arm + the hop up arm & bridge.

Notice that the differential cover is off. I did that because it's SO much easier to put in the steering assembly.

Rear TRF501X uprights. Yes, they fit.

I didnt put threadlock like the insert suggested - because I dont even know how the car will handle. I'll save my blue threadlock for later.

An old trick I learnt when I was a kid - use White Out to paint at the depressions, and scraping off the excess once dried. Bling which doesnt need me to make a trip to my LHS.

I didnt use any of the kit-supplied turnbuckles....I used these instead. DF03 hard turnbuckles.

Take note that the rear arm turnbuckles calls for a 21mm clearance from one edge of the adjuster to the other. These DF03 turnbuckles have a minimum clearance of 23-24mm....so if you MUST have that 21mm clearance, dont buy these turnbuckles for the rear arms.

great build!

oh and if you still have lots more holes to screw in, here's a simple tip.
tap the holes first, then screw in the machine screws

and this is a list of durga hop-ups for your reference in case you buy the wrong item

Hi Toonz! Haha, thanks for the kind words! Hope this thread is useful for those who are thinking of buying the DB01! (Tamiya should be paying me for endorsements!)

Thanks for the screw hole tip - should have thought of that earlier! Oh well, I'll keep the blue screws for spares, once the current philips screws strip away!

Also thanks for the helpful link!!

Caster block! It has two extra holes for extra caster settings. It has two extra holes - and I would think it enables you to change your camber settings as well!
