DB01 Slipper Clutch Set

Tamiya recommends the clearance to be 3mm. It will be a bit tight....but its good for now because it's to flatten the pads out a little.

DB01 Slipper Clutch Set

If you looked at the slipper instructions, there will be two less shims at the pulley side, Toonz was right.

I normally would follow instructions closely, but I discovered that without the shims, the whole center shaft had horrible play!

So I put in two more shims (per DB01's manual) and now the shaft sits tight in the holder.

TRF501X Adjustable Belt Tensioner

Inside the packet there are three tensioners originally intended for the TRF501X. We need only two.

Here you see that I've Pimped My Tensioners with blue screws (had them lying around, can't let them go to waste, can I? )

TRF501X Adjustable Belt Tensioner

Here is the finished product: slipper and tensioners.

I dont know if it's just me: The front tensioner wont clear the pulley. It will scrape the outer side of the inner pulley.

Also, the flat head screw that I need to make the front tensioner will scrape the slipper plate.

After a few hours of trial and error...this is the final product. Changes I've made are to use a shorter screw for the front tensioner, and I placed an additional 1mm spacer to enable the tensioner to clear the side of the pulley.

I do wonder whether the inner belt is too close to the slipper plate. Hopefully it doesnt matter!

TRF501X Stabilizer Set

Wish I had these for the DF03.

It made me chuckle to think Tamiya went all the way to draw a frontal TRF501X kit pic in the instructions, shade the kit dark and specify that 'Shaded parts are not included in the set'

TRF501X Stabilizer Set

These are not that difficult to install - here is a pic of the final product. Yes, I pimped the screws.

I installed the thinnest bar at both sides - once I get the thing running I'll probably have to make some adjustments.

The kit has a total of six bars, three for each side.

Hi wookie racer, if you want to read up, there are others who have built, run and compared the DB01 with at least one other kit in other forums (Think it was Tamiya forums). I'll disappoint you with this thread because it wont be anytime soon that I can run my kit - the tyres + receiver are at least a week away before they arrive

Hey thanks, snu_d! I can still improve on my assembling skills tho - I keep dropping things! Sheesh!

About your question - all things being equal, my TRF501X-wannabe DB01 cost me about USD370-380, with all the hop-ups I bought. The cheapest TRF501X I can find is at RCMart: USD425.90. RCChamp probably sells it cheaper but then so will a DB01 + hop-ups.

So with about USD50 more, I can get the real thing but would anyone dare to bash a TRF501X? Haha I can't, I know if I bought one it will be a shelf-queen .

The reason why the 900 + big hole shocks are bouncy is related to the speed of the shock shaft moving in the absorber before the flow changes from laminar to turbulent. When flow becomes turbulent, it makes a KICK that increases dampening.

Does this mean that say 400 oil + small hole pistons wont create the same effect?
