I know it is a little bit late now. But why did you not just mount the ESC on Velcro? Instead of cutting a hole in that nice new chassis?

Refer to pic! .... it's about 1 1/4th inch clearance max from the lowest part (of the lexan) at the ESC mounting area....

Sigh, the things I have to do to make use of the PC connectivity of the MM Esc.

Hole is not too shabby I think (considering my drilling skills)..... and I used the rubber pieces meant for protecting your floors from being scratched by furniture legs as the plug..... just over a buck for the whole sticker sheet !

Looking good so far. Bashing it is gonna be ballistic since your using the 7700Kv. .

Heh - mine's only a 5700kV. 7700kV is a little to fast for me!

Nope, So I also have a big fat hole in my chassis that I feel bad about

To be perfectly honest...It never occurred to me to use velcro until I saw all the other people do it.

I thought using velcro was a good idea too and that's what I did on my M04....... but with brushless power the ESC kept coming off everytime I hit something......now one of the very thin orange wires is hanging by a microinch of solder to the board....... one more hard impact and that's it. Granted the chassis design of the M04 is different and somewhat leaves components unprotected....but the concept of inertia is the same

So from then on I vowed NEVER to use velcro on RC components. Those ESCs arent cheap.... I'm glad other people have had better luck with velcro - but not me

You would be the first person that I have ever heard say the ESC was not secure using velcro. But yeah, if it comes down to a choice between a little hole in the chassis and a broken MM ESC..... The a hole it will be!!

.......still not sure which esc to get...heard some thermaling issues with the GTB Spread Spectrum....but may get one anyway (sounds the best - on paper anyway)...what's your opinion ?

I only use velcro on RC bodies. Shoe goo the esc or use double-sided tape.
Velcro does work if your not going over 40MPH.

Setup sheet for a Tamiya, wa!! First time I have seen it! ha! (but then I never owned any TRF cars... I bet those would have setup sheet..)

i dont recall seeing a setup sheet with my TA-03R-TRF, but then again that is an old model.. nice informative thread by the way.

damn thats gonna be a good setup.... i should have gone for titanium over aluminum on hindsight.....!

yeah shipping is a bit tricky at this time of year - and stella is a TOY / HOBBY shop ...... but I'll just order anyways if i were u! wonder if they have 'xmas special shipping rates'

about the esc im afraid i dont have useful advice to offer (sorry) cos i've only used the MM for all my setups (cos of the PC connectivity and Bishops good pricing and cheap shipping)..... but the GTB SS looks really interesting!

HO HO HO! Go assemble it pronto ! Maybe you will get it running before me (Tires still not here!!! )

Dont know about the receiver - I've never had my hands on a Tamiya receiver before actually ....and speaking of which..the receiver bay is quite tight....

But then again...if you can't fit the receiver at the receiver bay, there's always the transponder bay (actually...that's where I originally wnted to put my receiver...to balance out the weight a little.......

Damn, still cant forget the feeling when I got home finding the kit delivered....heh!

Which velcros did you use? Get the outside industrial ones from your hardware store.

I am very happy to see the huge advertisement Tamiya has for the Durga in the April 08 issue of RC car action. Much deserved attention to a great buggy. I dont want this thread to die out as i have seen it go into a long slump. Lets keep it alive. Does anyone have pics of Their DB-01 that they would care to post on this thread?

Thanks, I plan on getting one soon!

Looks like a very cool buggy. It should be much better at handling then my Rustler. Even IF it isn't the 501x or the B44...

Yeah it will definitley handle better than the rusty, since its 4wd. I would recommend when you order it, that you get the slipper, and some nice graphite shock towers from 3racing. I have the slipper, front one way, front and rear graphite shock towers, which are all a very nice edition to this buggy, but not all are nesaccery except for the slipper if your running a brushless. I have the mamba 6900 combo with some gp 3900's. Very pleased so far. I dont race, but i know for sure that this is a very capable racer that is right up there if not better than the kyosho Lazers.

My Durga kit is supposed to arrive at my house tomorrow. Can't wait to build this baby. I've already got the slipper set for it, and I also have some hop-up goodies on their way from RCMART. Two of the hop-ups are on backorder though So I may put off the build until they arrive.

I pretty much took my inspiration from nauticar's build. I too am a sucker for blue bling and carbon fiber
