nauticar -> My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 12:37:18 PM)

This showed up at my door today, courtesy of RCStation!

Didnt expect EMS to be so fast!

I will document the (slow) build of this kit - as well as all the screw ups I'll make [:(]

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 12:54:02 PM)

I dont know if this is the same kind of Lexan I got previously for my Dark Impact.....it seems less 'shiny'.....

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 12:55:47 PM)

Same format for the manual.....

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 12:57:32 PM)

Something new for me ... Setting Sheet......

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 12:59:36 PM)

Chassis and belt. Probably going with the Aramid for the belt- if there is such a hop up!

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 1:03:10 PM)

Chassis material is not the same as the Dark Impact - DI's chassis is a black shiny plastic, this is more matted and grayish, kinda like the same material as the suspension arms of the DI... wonder if this is stronger?

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 1:14:07 PM)

I dont know if it will fit side by side packs - cos I dont have any. This pack is probably the longest lengthwise that would fit without any mods or cutting. Breadthwise, for this pack, there's about 8mm to play with. Pack's approx dimensions: 139mm x 45mm x 20mm

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 1:17:07 PM)

The tires are about the same size as the Dark Impact's. Lucky me, I have Dirt Hawgs somewhere in my room......somewhere......

Lunchboxer -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 2:46:32 PM)

Looks great!! It should be a good buggy!

Setup sheet for a Tamiya, wa!! First time I have seen it! ha! [:D] (but then I never owned any TRF cars... I bet those would have setup sheet..)

barefootdan -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 5:55:38 PM)

how much was that beast?

yellowfuzzle -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/28/2007 6:25:12 PM)

Sweet, looking forward to the rest of the build....

wookie_racer -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/29/2007 3:24:47 AM)

HI LB! (Tamiya God) [:D]

If the Durga is based on the TRF501X then it shouldnt do too bad, heh. Setup sheet is a first for me too - wonder if it's really useful (for a non racer like me)

I got it for USD155, I think shipping was about USD30 via EMS (to Singapore). I bought early to beat the christmas rush! www.rcstation.com.

You can get it from other places, eg eBay, Tower ..... but for me rcstation was the cheapest. eBay, the last time I checked, had only one seller and the price was much more.

I dont think I can build this thing up fast - I'll be away for the whole of next week! [:@] And by the looks of the parts - I think it's a little more complicated than the DF-03......

Also, taking some experience from building up my DI, I'd think of first purchasing the hop ups that are available for the kit, and THEN build up.....

Interesting note: Before I bought this kit I was set to buy TRF501X hop-ups for it. But after reading the manual, apparently there WILL BE DB-01 dedicated 'essential' hop ups..... (eg slipper, front one way, etc)......

i730 -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/29/2007 4:48:56 AM)

the body is less shineyer cuz it has a over spray protective coating that you remove after painting
and the chassis is made of carbon plastic
alot stronger then the plastic the DI is made of

buttmonkey1969 -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (11/30/2007 11:36:33 AM)

I'm toying with the idea of getting one..........I look forwards to watching your build progress....and your overall opinion of it after you've given it a thrash

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 6:50:01 AM)

Main chassis - quite easy. Note to all - do not use hex screws for new holes! I stripped a couple here. Plastic is DEFINITELY harder than DF03 has.

Motor mount is made of some kind of ceramic material - kind of like the sharpening stone kind......

First thing I noticed which was interesting to me- chassis has option for you to change caster settings!

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 6:54:45 AM)

Number 3

Differentials, front and back. I used quite a lot of ball diff grease and really smeared the diff real good!

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 6:56:52 AM)

Number 3

Decided to use these-although I think on hindsight, it's not really necessary since the drivetrain is sealed up quite good (by the looks of it).

Can't throw these away though!

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 7:00:07 AM)

Rear differential cover. I have a weak spot for blue bling, which explains the hop-up blue hex screws you can see in the pic [sm=bananahead.gif]

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 7:04:19 AM)

Number 5

Front differential cover. No bling here - plastic is really tough.

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 7:08:29 AM)

Number 6

First pic shows the finished product - belt tensioners. I had to double check if I placed the correct tensioners at the correct sides.

Second pic shows the rear differential in the chassis.

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 7:13:13 AM)

This is the plastic part that seals the aft part of the motor mount. Neat idea to seal the drivetrain, I feel

Sorry for the darkish pic[:o]

nauticar -> RE: My 1st Belt Driven Tamiya - Durga DB-01 (12/12/2007 7:16:37 AM)

Number 7

Rear diff cover attached to chassis. One piece of advice - make sure you double check that you have done all you need, because it's quite tiring to screw in the 6 screws! (Actually I only remembered to use the differential seals AFTER I screwed the six screws in [:(])
