As it seems a little slow, I thought I would post picture of 11 new all composite R-200 wings set for NCPL racing in 2008. They were built for Norlin, Haas, Spatt and Brockman. Also Eldridge, Elert and Luce will be flying R-200 this year.

Dave you had better get those Seekers polished up and ready to go so you don’t end up in second like the last 4 years.
[:D]

vicman -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/28/2007 8:55:13 PM)

He's gotta hear that one loud and clear![:D]

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/28/2007 9:53:12 PM)

I've only had my workshop back in action this past month.

3 fuses done
3 composite tails done
1 composite wing done

And then more on the way.

I'll be ready, better get those eyes checked, and a fresh refill of old people pills.

PylonDave -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 4:28:09 AM)

dave are you building composite planes now???

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 12:46:41 PM)

Just tails and wings. Still using my wood seeker kits, fiberglassed.

DonStegall -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 2:04:09 PM)

Randy,

That is an impressive sight. A ton of work, and I'm sure a lot of happy customers to be.

Dave N,

Are you making tails from the molds we produced? If so, how are those tails working out? I need to get a set of females made from the males for my use. I was waiting on a report before trying to make molds for myself and others.

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 2:54:11 PM)

The molds work fine and are holding up nicely.

dapan -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 3:22:01 PM)

hi
i have one vortex composite wing... Can i use this fuselage and tail to this wing?
dapan

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (11/29/2007 4:04:41 PM)

Sure, that wing will fit on many of the current quickies:
R-200, Seeker, Hurrikane, Bird of Prey, and with minmal potting Neme-Q +.

Heck you can buy a wood fuse kit of the Vortex, why not stick with that.

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (12/31/2007 9:42:39 PM)

As Delbert would say, "I'm ready for Freddy".

Shop has been active the past couple weeks and planes are coming along nicely, I'll be ready, and A.J. has a couple started also.

Pulled another Tail out of the molds this morning, by far the best one yet at 2.1oz and great hinges using .010 fiberglass sheeet like I use to use in my wings. Works very nice.

One last thing, I picked up the "gladiator" storage rack system at Lowes as seen in the first two pictures which I mounted to the wall this morning. This is a nice setup for holding planes by their tails. I little spendy, but not bad ($10 for the 48" rack, and about $6 for each double pronged tail holder) So basically about $50 to hold 5-6 racing planes.

PylonDave -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (12/31/2007 11:47:13 PM)

Dang! Dave , that is a clean looking workshop or is that the living room??? [:)]

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 12:02:34 AM)

Thats my office, I like to keep the nice planes out of the workshop to avoid overspray, dust, and dirt.

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 12:10:37 AM)

Here is what I refer to as the "West Wing".

You can see I've been busy out there the last few days, nothing special just a 750 square foot garage with heat, air conditioning, and satelite TV :)

I refer to it as an extension of the house, I do spend a bit of time out there, so I might as well be comfortable. I've resisted the urge to put a Refrigerator out there, as I'd drink little green bottles all day and get nothing done!

skull1971 -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 1:04:22 AM)

..and you moved how many times this year??? "A clean workshop is a sign of a sick mind" [:)]

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 1:28:20 AM)

I moved to Milwaukee in January, and then back to Minnesota in October. Thankfully, this is the same house/workshop in Minnesota that I had before I moved to Milwaukee (couldn't sell it in the bad housing market this year). Other than maintaining two households most of the year, things worked out pretty good, although I missed a few races I would have liked to have attended.

You should have seen the workshop in mid October, it was sickly clean. Its amazing how quickly you can mess things up trying to build 5 planes at the same time.

BUDMAN27 -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 1:45:28 AM)

I love your work shop Dave ,but that old sckool TV has got to go. You need a LCD to save space for more planes. [:D]

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 3:22:51 AM)

I had a bigger TV out there, but the dust and dirt ate it up pretty quick.

I bought that little 20" Toshiba for $89 about 2years ago. I don't really watch too much TV out there, just like to have the baseball games on in the summer.

Works for me.

LOL, I have the 19" wedding gift from 20 years ago sitting atop a tool box in my shop. Ol Dave is Hi Tech with that ceiling hangar compared to me.[:)]

Kevin Matney -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 6:04:58 AM)

Im working on some thing new, More to come.
Look at all the black stuff and Kevlar. Do you think it is stronger then wood????

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/1/2008 3:25:05 PM)

Depends on whats vacumm bag laminated to the wood :)

I am going to stop laminating pieces that blind nuts have to go into, its a bear to get those set right without breaking the teeth off the blind nuts.

PylonDave -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/2/2008 2:02:56 AM)

Dave , What do you do on the inside by the firewall to strenthen that area??? Do you put carbon in there???

skull1971 -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/2/2008 3:04:59 AM)

Dave can we still get a copy of the Seeker plans from you?

skull1971 -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/2/2008 3:22:54 AM)

Randy, are the R-200's for sale? and do you have a web site, or info on them we can review. At the moment we're using Vipers, we have 3 of them and all 3 are different, one has a wing so warped you cant hardly fly it. So we're looking at all our options, for another plane. Thanks

daven -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/2/2008 4:46:53 AM)

My plans are available several places on the web.

Easiest would be www.supertrc.com

On my latest planes, the complet inside of the nose is laminated with 2.4 oz Carbon Fiber.

skull1971 -> RE: D. Normans NIGHTMARE (1/3/2008 12:33:19 AM)

Dave what format are the plans in my comp cant ID it to open the file.
