Is thier any more direct drive cars, these cars out perform 4wd's in every way so where did they go! how did the RC10L get dicontinued but the 4wd sedan is still here and more popular than ever? to me 4wd sedan racing was a step backward compared to the pure speed and performance of the RC10L and cars like it. could you imagine 4wd sedans being pushed aside in favor of bolink diggers.

It's just sad isn't it. I ran the Evolution cars a few years before I got out of racing, the sedans were just starting to show up and I just didn't have any interest in them. With the new battery technology I'm surprised they haven't gained popularity again. We were speed/run time limited by the batteries back then but now they could be made much faster and run longer which would bring the challenge back...

I agree somewhat. I loved racing my bolink when pans were everywhere. Unfortunately when many of the local tracks across the U.S. closed, people found that touring cars handled so much better on parking lot and less than perfect tracks, and also performed very well on good tracks. I tried last weekend to run my pancar on a parkinglot track and it couldn't come close to the sedans out there so I did what everyone else did along time ago and put it away again and got out my sedans and had fun. Don't get me wrong, I love my pancar still, but in 99% of the places to run a touring car will trounce it. Just my opinion, but I think it's why you don't see them anymore, to few places to run them.

Man it is sad, i ran RC10L'S for years at a place called bob & jims in riverside CA, then in the mid to late 90's SOCAL RACEWAY started having races in their parking lot and that is when i noticed that people were getting into these tamiya 4wd's , their was still 8 heats out of 12 that were full of 1/10th scale onroad , F1 & 1/12 scale onroad. in 1years time 1/10th onroad & F1 class were gone and all the heats were filled with 4wd sedans, i love to race so i bought a 4wd sedan and i still race them but truth be told its nowhere near as fun, man i remember having 1700 cells & 36 degree motors and gearing 4:1 just so i did'nt dump. with the batteries we have now, matched 4200 high voltage wow that would be fast and we can run 5min heats with no problem!! you know my 4wd sedan has a 12x2 motor 4200 cells and it's still slow and the handling is not even close to that of a pan car. i tell you it's like trading a 08' NSX for a 01'civic SI ,just plain backwards dude.

They were king of the carpet and pretty good on banked concrete with caps, maybe that's the problem. Not versitile enough.....

i dont agree, i raced pancars on unperfect parking lots and well prepared tracks & worked well in both. with a sedan you dont have to have a great set up because they are 4wd & are more forgiving on unprepared surfaces. honestly i dont think todays 4wd's can turn a faster lap than the last 10L made with all things being equal, just to match the speed of a stock motored pan car you need like a 11 or 12 turn motor in the sedan, and yeah sedans handle well on smooth and rough tracks but so do well set up pan cars!

they also ruled paved roadcourses asphalt and concrete, im just saying in no catagory but braking does todays sedan's out perform a good pan car, i think one of the best sedans out is the xray, those car carry some serious corner speeds but still not enough to out corner a pan car and as far as overall quickness and speed forget about it! that's just my opinion!

I miss direct-drive too. A friend and I are in the process of building a couple of chassis from scratch that will fit HPI's Vintage Camaro & Mustang bodies so we can go racing in the parking lot to see who has the better driving skillz. We will run bone stock Tamiya silver-can motors, cheapie ESC, and plain-old Bolink type steering blocks on the front end to keep costs down. There will be minimal suspension for the rear end. We want to keep these cars rugged... because there may be some use of the "chrome horn" involved.

Tamiya makes a direct drive.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNUD7&P=7

You can also get them from Custom Works and RJ Speed.

You can get the RC12L, HB Cyclone 12, Trinity Black Widow and Bolink is making the legends again.

Anything else you're upset about ty2000?

Tamiya makes a direct drive.

Yup... I was also considering the Tamiya, but I've got a big box of pan car parts and a bunch of fiberglass sheet stock just sitting around gathering dust. The project will cost me nearly zero dollars.

Sounds like you have a good project ahead of you.

I feel like I have come full circle back to where I started.... after running a Pro4 & TC4(which are now gathering dust). I am getting back to the simpler cars and having fun again, instead of tuning & tweaking all the time.

I had a FT TC4 and ended up selling it, I just had more fun with the basics. The TC4 was always so fragile.

You are welcome to join us in our discussion thread, there are more Tamiya fans here than you think.
