Hi all-
Soon to be the new owner of one of these helis and was wondering what parts I should get that I am going to break right away.I have seen so far for certain: tail rotor, extra battery, blade grips and flat main blades-anything else? And substitution / aftermarket parts for less $$ ? Thanks so much,
Mike

You listed the stuff I have broklen so far. I would order all the parts needed to make a new rotorhead flat out. I busted the entire thing twice now. Having a carbon or walmart needle tail boom is recommended. Stay away from the CNC stuff till you can go a few days in any situation without crashing badly. This is MY personal experience. Others may differ

Everybody has different parts that get broken, but there are some constants. Probably the part that gets broken most are blade grips, as you've probably gathered. Personally, I've broken more blade grips than any other parts, but ironically I've never broken a tail rotor. However, I do have a spare on hand for when I do.

Another important part to have spares of is the feathering spindle. There are few crashes that result in broken blade grips that don't also bend the feathering spindle. If it's a slight bend, you may be able to carefully bend it back but more than likely, it will need to be replaced. You will probably also need a main gear at some point, as any time the blade rotation is stopped abruptly, there's a chance you may lose a few teeth on the gear. I went several months without damaging that and then went through two in one week. I also keep a main shaft on hand, although I've yet to bend that either. The Wal-Mart knitting needles (8mm) are a good bet.

It's hard to know what you're going to need. Once you start practicing and crashing, you'll get to know quickly what is needed. Just have fun learning!

Greygoose, Hello, I'm kind of new to this board. By way of introduction, I've been flying fixed wing for about 15 yr. I've been flying a Blade CP into pieces for about a year and just got an AxeCP. I would ad another battery for when you start getting better and want to fly more. If you are new to helis, I would send you to Radd's school before you did anythinhg else. His lessons have helped me tremendously. Good Luck, let us all know how you do, Doc

Hey, blade grips are only $4 a pair. The biggest rip off money-wise is the cheap aluminum tail boom and the wooden blades. Do the knitting needle thing, and get some flat bottom plastic blades. The wooden ones only have to hit a blade of grass to shatter!

My LHS just started stocking the HeliMax parts, and when I told him of the replacement for the $14.95 tai boom, he said, "don't tell anyone!". But he has a supply of blade grips close to my house, so I'm good. The WalMart is also just around the corner, so I have all the replacement parts I need close by!

The Stabilizer Hub is another one of the "fragile" parts that is cheap and tends to break at the ballends. CA glue is NOT recommend as a repair tactic on critical "control-surface parts," athough inserting a piece of piano-wire thru a CA'd ballend is a secure fix, just drill a hole thru the center of the ballend, into the hub, insert wire & CA the bageezeses out of it. A spare flybar is another recommendation, unless your good at straightening out pretzels.
