Hello guys, sorry to hijack the thread, but its not entirely off subject.... I have an OLD SCHOOL blizzard with the dual 380 motors. My tracks are nearing the end of their life. Does the new DF and EP style blizzards use the same tracks?? Could I just buy them and use em on mine ?? If not, anyone try a conversion, using the EP's sprocket, and bogies ??

Also what the heck is the trick to keep the snow from packing in the sproket??? I set it outside for about 10 to 15 minutes prior to using it, and this helps immensely, but if the snow is wet, it still packs. Anyone try teflon, or somehting like that ??

And for the record, what is my old school blizzard called ??? The new ones are EP, GP, and DF right ???

The EP and EV use the same track, I am pretty sure.. but yours is not he EV.. yours w/ dual 380 motor is another generation older (the Heavy Metal, most likely, as Pflumitch said) and I am not sure if they use the same tracks..

Maybe if you post some pics then we can see what can be done...

The EP/EV generation uses chain drive which I don't think is the same as yours.. so the conversion might not be that easy..

Oh, I have run it for years, and we have had a bit of snow already and its been out. I got it new from Tower Hobbies back in 1985 or so and it has the snowcat body with the smokstack, and flashhing light on top, not the heavy metal van body. I think it might be called a DX. I have the snow plow for it too, but not the rear groomer. It has the original dual rheostat speed/steering controllers, which, quite frankly I dont see any problem with at all. I can control it very precisely. N ot sure why everyone was spending money on the electronic speed controls, nor why Kyosho released the new version with one motor and brakes for steering. The only real problem I have is with the tracks. quite a few of the links between lugs are split, and its only a matter of time before they break in half. Then Im dead in the water. Unless the new tracks will fit or can be made to fit. I take a few pictures of it and post em in the next week or so.

You asked why is Kyosho doing the newer version this way? It is most likely because it is cheaper to make!! I am sure I'd prefer the old geartrain w/ dual motor setup (change to dual 540, ha!).. anyway, I am sure it is just an economical decision on Kyosho's part.

Just like you would not see Tamiya re-release those old school RCs that use a lot of metal parts...

Correct, that is a Blizzard DX, not a Heavy Metal

Just bought one of these! Now which brushless setup is the way to go so the tranny will not fall apart?

I am sure any mild brushless setup will work. The tranny is so simple that I think it will take plenty of power.

Keep us posted!!

It's snowing a bit here, but not much accumulation. Just enough to drift around. We need some snow so you can try that thing out!
