Ok i have had my share of rc cars from simple x-mods, a rustler, and a old nitro quake, But i have never tried to build my own. I just purchased a blank chasis on ebay with two sets of wheels. It has not arrived yet so im not sure of its condition but i want to start looking for parts i will need. I really wanted to go brushless... since i can... but i don't want it to be uselessly fast, just a nice brushless motor to be fast and long runtimes. So can anyone help out with what will work, and what i need. Ok these are what i think i need (im a noob i know!)(first post tooo) A reciever, a motor and esc, a servo, body, antenna,....? what else. I really NEED help with this and thanks ahead of time for any suggestions and HI TO everyone.

Long runtimes, get like a Mamba 4200. That will take the motor and esc. Then get a lipo for the battery, like a THunder Power 1320 as that will also give longer runtimes than a ni-mh (remember to set the cut-off on the mamba). Servo, you don't need anything drastic, get like Multiplex Tiny-S or Hitec 81-S(example). Order and install the Xray servo saver if the car you bought doesn't have one. Otherwise you will strip out the servo.

Protoform offers a Stratus and Mazda body that fit.

Receiver depends on what kind of transmitter your going to use with it.

Thanks alot, i have an old Lynx-Hitec radio, I think it would just be a 2-channel (27.045MHZ), just has a wheel, throttle 2 trims and overturn adjustment. It came with the nitro quake. Will this work at what transmitter will it need.

I guess it would work? Hard to say. Sounds like a better idea is to get a sub -100 computerized FM radio. That way you can buy more than one receiver and use for all your vehicles.

So what would be a good reciever, or just any micro/mini ones? Are they all similar in quality?

Oh yea, and where should i buy batteries from, tower or somewhere else, will lipos make that much of a difference with http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHAH8&P=0 . plus i would have to buy a new charger, would a cheap lipo one work. Thanks again, and i can't seem to find the batteries you mentioned.

To save mulah, just use the one that comes with the transmitter. It will be a bit big, but should fit on your servo. Later on you can get a micro one and delegate your stock one to another car.

And as far as which one and such. Visit your LHS where you can feel them and get feedback from the employees.

Was that the car that sold for about $55 on Wednesday or Thursday? I was thinking of bidding on that lol

We buy are Li-pos from a rc_gomez on ebay. They will make a big difference vs. 5-6 cell Ni-Mh batteries.

You will need a new charger for the Li-Po.

Yea that was it, i hope its in good shape. What would a good cheap lipo charger be/cost. Also motors don't come with pinion gears right, so which size would be good, maybe two, one for fast/racing the other for drifting or slower riding. And for a reciever? I feel like im missing stuff, what about an antenna. Will the reciever and antenna work from my nitro quake?

You can pick up an antennae at your LHS if the combo your buying doesn't come with one. The receiver should work in your nitro quake as well. It would be easier though to buy a spare so you dont have to switch it out everytime you want to run one or the other.
