Hey hey hey, it's my beat up old pickup truck! Someone here has spent more on just one RC than I did on this old truck, but I can't say it was a mistake. This thing is a rare find indeed.

I love this old thing. IT may not be the quickest, sure as hell ain't the prettiest, but she runs like a very old, very worn out swiss watch lol.

Key specs:

300ci inline six, fed by 1bbl electronically-assisted carb. Electronic distributor ignition as well.

four-speed overdrive manual transmission, original clutch, 3.05 or worse rear axle. :\ It's stupidly geared. Clutch is also showing age, but still works ok. lawl 1600rpm @ 70mph in fourth.

I do have a working radio and two-way speaker setup!!!!!! It's a leg-up on other beat-up pickups in this regard...I'm able to drown the worn and noisy throwout bearing, which needs replacing, with Breaking Benjamin if I so desire...

I just bought a 1971 vw squareback, right now it sits in the driveway with the right rear suspention torn apart to lower it. I just got the front lowered about 2.5 inches, the front sits 6 inches off the ground and the rear sits 8.25 inches off the ground, when im dont it will sit at an even 6 front and rear. Ill se if the pics will load. Nope pics wont load, ill get some up when my internet quits acting up.

what convinces you to lower volkswagens??

cause this

is cooler than this

but in my book nothing is cooler than a cal-look car

ehh. The blue bug looks neat but it seems to be a drag car.

The first car is kinda dumb IMO.. but to each his own I guess.

I guess it depends, This Thing looks like a vaccum cleaner, and this bus is kinda lame, check out the dude with an umbrella for height comparison.

Cal Look is OK but anything more than that is lost on me.

nope, its not a drag car. its a street car. its a cal-look car and cal-look cars are street cars modeled after the vw's that drag raced in the gasser classes back in the 60's. i think the pic was taken at a drag strip that's why its got slicks and ID numbers on the windows. a lot of cal-look cars get cruised on Saturday and raced on Sunday

the thing, yeah, that's to low for a thing. a bug or bus at that height would look cool. but a thing is not to cool looking at parade float height. the bus is a chop top, built volksrod style. i don't remember if its on air or not, but yeah, its low has hell, maybe even to low. it not a daily driver. in fact i have my doubts about if it ever hits the street

Yeah, that would explain it. I just noticed the shoe polish'ed windows and slicks. I always though racing a street car was kind of touchy as you can put to much power through the stock drive train pretty easily. And if you keep beefing up stuff you kinda miss the point of a street car. lol. But Cool none the less.

a stock vw tranny will take a good 140hp before hot rodding on it becomes a craps shoot. or for a couple G's you could rebuild and beef up the stocker to take a good 200 or just get a new one that will handle a 300hp turbo motor (at that point it may have plates and working lights but its basically a race car). most of the cal-look cars are nothing but play things anyways. so having to drive them daily isnt an issue. plus on a bug, what amenities are you going to loose? the heater, the fuel economy, some ride comfort, and some cornering ability. most of these cars have stock interiors (if your a big dog you'll have a roll bar, 5 point belts and a racing seat), stock body's, when ya only put 250 miles a year on it, BFD ya know

there's what's called a "chamber compressor kit" you can get (its a bolt on deal) that helps correct it, but wont solve it

New to the site, and ran across this thread.

Here's the daily driver, 2003 Mazda 6....when I had my son a few years ago, got rid of my 2002 SVT Lightning for this. Needed something more kid friendly, but I sure do miss that truck.

Here's the play car, 1991 Ford Mustang LX...old turbo combo ran 6.70's @ 104 in the 1/8th on the stock block and heads. New motor/turbo combo being built even as we speak.

Old combo...

Mock up of new combo...

Shooting for 750+ rwhp on pump gas, and 1000+ rwhp on race gas and slightly bigger turbo.

Here's my 2007 Mazdaspeed3. Lots of zoom and lots of fun. However, it is sorely in need of a good cleaning and waxing.

This is hot right here. I had hopes of turning my beetle into this some day, then money got tight so I sold it. Now that I have grown up and settled into a career, something like this will be a future project.
