Razor and I have raced Patriot vs F-20, and ragged on each other to no end.
With the 45 or 50 size engine a 9-8 is about it. Razor has mucho Patriot experience,
but we don't do the dive/speed thing....just straight around speed, like pylon racing.

We use regular sport props, not the specialty pylon props.

Thanks FBD, I have never owned a Patriot but figured it would do well with a 9" sport prop and not need the thrust from a 10" prop. It will be interesting to compare the results of the two props and SpeedBoy is set up to do just that.

....yep. I'm not sure that the Jett 50 will pull a 9-9....but you know how that goes.

When I say "pull", I mean at maximum RPM. Some of these guys here at RCU
will have a 12.25 x 3.25 (or some darned thing) on a .46 talking about great performance.

SpeedBoy says his Rossi 53 turns a 10x8 at 15,500 so it should be fine with a 9x10. It seems to be timed for less rpm then the Jetts.

Howdy! Actually Dave the Jett-50 on my Patriot was happiest and I got the best performance on the 9x9 APC. I ran a 9x8, and 10x7 also but the 9x9 was clearly superior. It had insane vertical also which is a shock to some when I say 9x9. (It got off the ground in about 110 feet also with that tiny prop.)

Went as fast vertical as it did level (it seemed). I have flown Patriots (kits and ARF's, retracts and fixed) with: Irvine-53, K&B-48, ASP-46, Rossi-45, OS-50SX, YS-45, and Webra-50GT. The Jett-50 was a HUGE difference over all the aforementioned. (The YS needed bearings or it mighta been close)

I recall the Jett-50 turning a 9x9 APC about 16.5K or thereabouts. I have run and tested a ROssi-53 on the mini-pipe (not full pipe like Speedboy uses) but never got impressive results on 9". Never tried a 9x10 or higher pitch.

Cheers!

I don't doubt it, Mike. The Rossi looks like a good bet for sport....

....I wonder about the ultra thrust mufflers on them.

Don't the Rossie's come with a (black) tuned muffler already?

Thanks Razor, I figured you would have the answers about a Patriot and props.

I hope that my Rossi turn at least 15,500 with 9x10 apc if that happens I think wold be one step above

At the moment I running with 10% nitro, do you think that can help me run with 5 % ??? or is better keep on 10% ???

2 months ago I had to change the ball bearings of my Rossi , some body has knowledge or any experience adding oil of turbine jets to the fuel (real jets) ??? a friend said me that protects the ball bearings add 1 o.z. per gallon and I have 1 litter of oil turbine but I not used yet.

Speedboy, petroleum oils mix with petroleum fuel but don't with methanol fuel. Klotz synthetic oil and Sig castor oil are all that I use. The oil in store bought fuel is going to be good enough for typical Sunday flyers, but I was taught years ago to top off a fresh gallon of store bought fuel with at least 4 ozs of castor. None of my ABC ball bearing engines show any signs of varnish, they are run hard till the last drop of fuel is burned off and landed deadstick. I use up to 25% oil in some engines without seeing performance drop off.
Your choice of nitro content can be based on glow plug life and signs of pitting or metal transfer on top of the piston and in the combustion chamber. It is nice to have an extra shim or 2. The choice of prop and exhaust system length are the only other tuning tools at the field. Shaving the prop blades can make a difference if the engine doesn't want to carry the extra load of a 9x9 prop.

I run my engines hard and never add extra oil to my fuel with very few engine problems. It may help under certain circumstances but like combatpigg said, do not use petroleum oil in glow fuel. I have never owned a Rossi but I have read many times extra nitro does not increase power and 5% or 10% is max.

Can you borrow a tank of 5% and compare rpm? If the Rossi is overcompressed for 10% (kinda doubtful but maybe) then you'll see no gain with the 10%. I've typically seen excess nitro problems start to happen at around 15%, however, I don't buy a lot of 10% so may have missed something

Rigt now I order 9x10 apc , I hope to have news soon , may be a week when it arrives and I can prove it .

Mike Connor : Can I count with your program doppler in the case that increased the speed and the bushnell radar cannot register the speed ???

I'll try run with 5% like MJD say , and see what rpm have this engine , I hope the new set-up like to my Rossi At the moment I running whit only one shim head .
