Hi All I'm building a down sized version of The Miss Texas for Electric flight..I'm having a problem building the fuselage..Now I've built many of planes, this is the 1st one where the fuselage is built from the bottom up..You have to put the bottom cross pieces down over the top view of the plans and glue then to the fuse sides..

Can anyone help with this type of building..,I think I got the rest of the build down..LOL

Thanks Dan

Start by making the two side frames. Then cut out the lower cross pieces. Pin the cross pieces down and then pin the side frames down and bend them to contact the cross pieces. Align the sides so they are vertical using blocks or right angle triangles to jig them in place and add the upper deck formers. Now add CA to the joints to lock it all. Or if you're using another type of glue do all this and work fairly quickly to line everything up while the glue is still wet.

It looks like the forward section will be up in the air. That's fine but I'd suggest you use more nice square blocks or jig triangles to ensure they are lined up to the outline shown on the plan that is on the building board under the fuselage.

I built an 80" version several yars ago. I had a problem sheeting the turtle deck because of the compound curves. I gave up on the sheeting, removed the coumpound curves and added additional stringers. The covering, Super Coverite, did an excellent job, and I liked the straight line from the headrest back to the fin. The stringers gave a pleasing appearance also. I flew it with a ST 90, plenty of power. A broken elevator joiner did the ship in.
Good luck.

Hi randomvector
I just finished sheeting the front part of the fuselage..It took awhile. I hope I got it right..I just sheeted back too the beginning of the cockpit. Now I have an open space from the beginning of the cockpit back to the headrest. I guess I can always fit something in there..LOL Only took me 2 hours to do IT!!Next I have to cut out for the battery hatch.. Problem is I have to locate and cut just before the extra former's I put in there..Can't wait to get to that part.

How did your Miss Texas fly..I have a friend who bought one off of E-bay, it came with an old type glow motor..I think name is Vector..The carb. opening slides back n forth..He likes it a lot.
I'm also doing away with the 3 rib center section.I'm just going to joing the wings together at center ribs, then glass the seam..Mine will have the main gear mounted on the fuselage.

Thanks Dan

Hi All Here are some of the numbers, I'm getting for the Miss Texas,46" WS/ Wing Area 375/Wing Loading 16.6.
Hyperion 3013/16,Titan 50 amp ESC. These numbers are with 3 different batteries.Right now I'm leaning towards the 10x5-21 amps-217 watts or 10x7 25 amps-240 watts
APC e 10x5
21 amps-217 watts
21 amps-239 watts
25 amps 280 watts

APC e 10x7
25 amps-240 watts
27 amps-280 watts
30 amps-335 watts

Thanks Dan

Those numbers all give you well over 80 watts per lb. Definetly sufficient since 100 watts/lb is considered 3D territory.

They'll all work but I think you'll find that it's pleanty happy with the 10x5 unless you're going for a more racy style.

I'm NOT into 3D or in need of a racer..Just want a nice relaxing plane to get some much needed stick time on.

Next project is a plane called the Swallow designed by Fred Resse..The Swallow is one he designed before the famous Cloud Dancers.

Swallow: WS 58"-Wing Area 540 Sq In.-Weight-3 .5 lbs with a 40 4 stroke.
I will keep the original measurements, only use a Electric motor.

Thanks Dan

Nice work on "Miss Texas", good looking scheme. The Swallow reminds me of a FlyBaby...

Hi All Well I finally got the Miss Texas in the air..The 1st flight went pretty well, just had to increase the UP throw on the elevator.. Hyperion 3013/16,Titan 50 amp ESC. These numbers are with 3 different batteries.Right now I'm leaning towards the 10x5-21 amps-217 watts or 10x7 25 amps-240 watts
APC e 10x5
21 amps-217 watts
21 amps-239 watts
25 amps 280 watts

APC e 10x7
25 amps-240 watts
27 amps-280 watts
30 amps-335 watts
I went with Apc e 10x5-21 amps-217 watts at 86 watts per pound, was enough to get some good
flights..

Thanks all for your help..
Dan
