Well I know DM was in support of the parkflyer program without a cost reduction. Now I don't see how the program could be launched at $58, unless they have something else up their sleeve. So, let's see what you think the "normal rate" will be.

Will it make a difference? I think not. Lets see, the NRA can reduce dues for those with Red Ryder BB guns and have a membership surge. The American Motorcycle Association can reduce dues for mopeds and get more members. Get real!!!

I'd agree with you guys, and I give it a 50/50 chance the new program will be $58. But NRA costs $35. AMotoA is $39. EAA is $40. And most orgs I belong too are in the $40 range. The AMA as it sits is $58 and even if you exclude insurance which is $10 a member cost, it's still $48. That means AMA is expensive from a membership cost basis. Also how many people do you know fly parkflyers and only parkflyers and of those people you know who do, how many of them belong to the AMA? The program is not developed for those who fly foamies and .46 sized planes and giant scale, it's only for parkflyers only. I think the AMA is going for the reality approach in trying to acquire these pilots.

The bottom line is the AMA is expensive and if you want to match relative costs try comparing an experimental aircraft versus a $40 pricetag for the EAA. Funny but I see the EC talking about the EAA more now then ever and they should.

Well, Dion, the insurance company offered to cover the cost for year one at $0.00. They have marketeers too. Does that affect your estimate of the initial cost for the PF program?

Maybe the AMA should offer to give the parkfliers $10 or $15 if they will join up. I would really like to see the AMA member park fliers get a SIG organized. Might answer the question, "What do parkfliers want which AMA can provide?"

I see no reason to have a parkflyer program if its going to be the same price as
a regular membership, however i think if the AMA was smart they would give
all first time members a one year free membership.

I'm still working on what the Youth PF Tier will cost:
If the adult PF Tier is $39, would that make the Youth PF Tier $2,
and the Youth PF No-MA Magazine be $-8? Do we mail the kids checks, or how does that work?

What about the PF Family tier? Does that drop from $30 to ... $10(??)

where will they stop the madness.

Try as I might, I just don't think I care about this topic! Not that I don't care about the Park Flyers or if they join the AMA. I just think many of the topics posted here are done soley to attempt to get a rise out of someone.

Ok Fellows, I will bite on this topic. My vote was for $29.99 based on the thought of what the cheapest electric foamy would cost. If the membership was to high there would be less interest in joining. This price is about what some magazine subscriptions cost per year; so by joining the AMA they get the magazine too besides the insurance. The question I now have is just what size of land is going to be needed for Parkflyers since there has been mention of intercity flying sites. Land being expensive would mean small flying sites that could not support the larger planes needing the normal size AMA designed fields. The main thought to have another membership level would be to make sure that all the radio equipment met AMA standards so there would be no chance for frequency interference at close by club flying fields. Is it just me that gets the impression the buyer of an electric plane from Wal-Mart does not need insurance as there appears to be nothing dangerous about flying the plane in an uncontrolled flying site?

Mode One,

I think that you are absolutely right. The only difference is that I don't give a Rat's A** about the park flyers. I don't think that they will bring anything worthwhile to the table.

The answer of course depends completely on the benefits that will be offered with said "parkflyer program".

Someone of your demonstrated business prowess of course knew this already.

I am sure it was just an oversight on your part, not explaining what the benefits of the "parkflyer program" would be to a potential member.

Hard to price something when the "value proposition" is not explained, right??

Ok people,
I am sure that all our good friend JC has all this figured out: Thats why he gets paid the big bucks. After all, anyone whocan manage Muncie, can manage a wimpy old PF program.
