GFS UAV... I'm not impressed but the Government is supposedly...

http://jlnlabs.online.fr/gfsuav/index.htm

How are they countering the prop's rotational tendency to spin the uav...
(sorry I'm knew to terminology in the heli world)
Notice the angle of the fins on the dome of the UAV to direct the air flow.

This uav sure does seem inefficient with the air flow over the dome and quite
unstable.

It's major limitations will be with payload capacity, range, duration, and vibration passed on to the payload. Looks to be more of a concept design than a working one.

Why not saying it directly: - There seems to be some "great decision makers" out there who
decide the funding for this. What this UAV would do if the power plan shuts down, becide the
other questions of speed, efficiency - which results in pay-load lifting and transportation. This
is really funny (not to say stupid) project, sory being direct ... but better be honest, isn't it ?

Always good to see people trying new things. Maybe I missed it but I didnt read anywhere that any government is interested in this? It is late at night for me so I may have missed that. I dont consider that a UAV until it can fly autonomously and out of sight of the operator/GCS. It is an R/C aircraft, not quite a UAV yet.

Hey Pat, is it cold over there yet? We had 4 inches of snow today and it is 21 degrees right now.

Guys I thnk you are missing the aerodynamic effects the model has rather then it's limitations. Payload factors are dealt with by the engine makers. Something like this project ALWAYS leads to an improvement in concept. Give the guy a break.

Yep, It's getting cold. Down to 3c at night. Days are a lot better.

Concepts and progress are truly great things, but practicality has to have a hand in it somewhere. I'm with Asanders about it qualifying as a UAV. It's still tethered to to a near by operator and controller so it's got a ways to go. Then again. it would be a good tool for working the inside of vertical shafts where atmospheric disturbances would be minimized. Payload, which is the only reason for a uav, is still an issue.

I have to argue that payloads are effected by the engine makers in many ways. Often negatively. Payloads are rarely determined or dealt with by the engine makers.

I saw that thing a couple of years ago. Looks pretty goofy. Great for making UFO hoax videos though. Needs lights and little green men.

Those flying saucer types are slow and limited on payload for sure. All delicate parts are inside a protective shell enabling them to take far more rough handling than any other type. They could be best for soldiers with limited support.

For all you people complaining, DO BETTER.

Its still an open market last time I checked. You don't like it or don't think it performs well enough? Design and fly something better.
