Joe,

I am not a fan of JR servos due to the 8611 gear slop issue. and from what I understand the 8711 are faced with the gear slop problem. I have never had this problem with Hitec Servos.

I will make my own servo tray, I can make them lighter that the SWB two servo tray. I will follow-up with pics.

What style spinner are you planning on using?

5" Reg. or 5" P-51 style?

Nice new Toy u have there.

have U tried the new JR8611a or the 8711 lately because there is no Gear Slop in mine.

In test at TBM the JR8711 blows away all others in Torque.

My new 2.6m CARF Yak with the JR 8711 isn't finished yet still at 70%.

Hopefully we can compare them when we both finish them.

Little progress tonight. Repaired the damage on the wing socket sheeting, checked the fuselage over inside and out. Looks like they used epoxy during the assembly in China. I hit a few places like where the vast plywood jigsaw puzzel of joints with thin CA, (Just me). All in all, I am very happy with the fuselage. It is very light, very strong in the right places, and very BIG. Mounted the motor and figured out that I need 50mm drop headers, measured from the surface of the exhaust port, to the center of the tuned pipe tunnel. I also laid out all of the gear that I am going to use, just to get a feell of how much room I need, of which there is plenty.

Jake, I am using a 5" CF 'Extra' Style Spinner from Troy Built Models.

Ya I cant decide what spinner to get.. have to put in with some other stuff... the P-51 stye looks cool on them but is it worth the extra money.. that is the question in my head :)

The Rudder servo tray did not come completed, I gues so that the builder can set it up as he pleases. The kit included a plywood tandem servo plate, I will make my own tray and support brace and finish it off nicely. I wish I had more time tonight to get more done, but Xmas time, family time, and work time [sm=tired.gif], kinda collided so escaped into the "Laboratory" and I did what I could to work on the 3D monster. But tomorrow night I plan to get busy. I am going to open up the cannister bays and prep it for the Flat Black "BBQ Grill spray paint job". I also plan to get all of the trays made and equipment mocked up. Maybe even get it up on its legs in the next day or so.

Have you guys seen the new Model Aviation Magazine,the article about direct drive.I like the new direct drive way of getting the flying surfaces to move. They put the servo right on the hingeline mounted into the stab.wing and fin.. No ballends,pushrods ect.
I wonder if you guys ever tought of doin this.The company's website is,

Hey Frank,

I read that article. It was very good reading and seemed to be a good Idea. The only thing is that maintenance looks like it would be a real ............chore! It also looked like it would be hard to incorporate in an built up ARF. The other thing was that the servo housings, especially three on the rudder looked a little odd.

Yeah I just looked at the website and yeah the triple on the rudder didnt look right. I also dont like the look of the box hanging out when the surface was deflected.. But it seems to work well,you would have to find a rib to mount it to..

I hate when other stuff interferes with our hobby.. Except when Im out riding the mountain bike,I love doing that..Anywho,

Looking great! I read up on the 104" sneek peak thread. Is the 110" version still going to come in close to the 27-28lb target weight? Also - is the length from rudder to cowl really 101"!!!!!! My trailer is 102" from the front wall to the door. How hard is it to pull the rudder. [:D]

Very easy if you hinge it right. If you use Dubro heavy duty hinges and a piece of 0.047" music wire you can remove the rudder very easily. Simply remove the hinge wire and detach the pull-pull cables and it's off.

Great idea - I like it! Might allow me to haul one of these babies.

Excuse my ignorance - I'm new to the giant scale stuff...

Do you need to drill an exit hole in you tailgear strut to pull the pin out through the bottom?
How to you keep the pin in once you push it in?

Hey Martin, Yes I am pretty sure it will be 100+ inches w/ spinner. I am shooting for under 27 lbs. Removable Rudder is an awesome Idea.

Okay guys, a little more progress. Got all of the mounting trays done in the fuse, except for batteries. I will make those after the first CG check. First wanted to show you guys what I have done on my last three GS ships. I like to soft mount the power box, so I came with the "FH Soft Mount" foam rubber sandwiched between two 1/8" lite ply. Works great and so far no failures.

Got the rudder servo tray sorted out. I used a piece of 1/8" aircraft grade plywood, a piece of 5/16" x 5/8" hard wood beam epoxied the fuse sides w/ supports. two 5955's installed and ready dial in and hook-up cables.

Got the receiver and Smart-Fly Optical cut mounted up. This time I opted to Veloro mount these, since the rx and switch are light weight. The HD Velcro hold really tight and offers some sort if vibration isolation and flexability. I used the industrial strength stuff that is sold at my other favorite Hobby Shop, The Home Depot [:)], I applied the hook part the 1/8" lite plywood mount coated with thinned 5 minute epoxy. At the four minute mark of curring I applied the hook side of the velcro. This really makes it stick and almost impossible to get off.

Throttle servo installed. Throttle linkage made of threaded road and reinforced with hollow carbon fiber rod.

Guys I need your help. I want to open up the cannister bay, but apparently I will not have to open up all of them for the ES Composite pipes. I guess they are long enough for Greives(sp?) or longer pipes. But I won't really know exactly how much of the underside I have to open up until I get my header pipes from Desert Aircraft, which I just ordered the other day. Can anybody tell me how long the stock header pipe is from the center of the exhaust port to the end that ties into the cannister?
