- Chris Hinson sent me a 5" straight SWB rudder servo arm, and the geometry for pull-pull constrols were not correct. The rudder servo arm needed to match the rudder control horns measured at 4-3/8" w/ offset, like the 4" SWB off-set servo arm. So I modified the 4" arm I had and made carbon fiber arm extensions. Worked like a champ, and now I get nice cable tension through-out the whole rudder deflection in both directions.

That is what Rennie did, I have used a 4" SWB Offset in mine and it seems to work fine.

The correct legnth for the rudder servo arm is the 4.5" offest. I checked with SWB and he told me that he was about a month out getting them ready.
I called Chris and he said that the 4" offset arm should work but I told the guy at the SWB to send one my way when he getss them ready.
I will change to the 4.5" arm when it comes.

YeaI dug up an old email I sent to Chris and he said the 4" straight will work too but the new one from SWB will be a perfect match..Im gonna just use the 4" for now and Ill get the new one when it comes out.

If I dont like the setup on a 4" SWB on a single 8711, I am going to put my SWB dual servo tray in it and run two 8611A's. The SWB tray has a 4.5" arm on the bellcrank portion.
It may just be as well to go ahead and put it in it but the thing feels like a brick with both servos in it. I want to keep the weight down as much as possible.

Okso what is the trick to matching up the aileron servos ? Ive been at it all day and am getting nowhere fast. When I try to match the degrees both ways from center by adjusting the linkage its not even close. Since you cant change the control horn height how are you guys matching them up ?

I used a matchbox on each wing which made it very straight forward.

Well matchboxes just match the end pointsthat's not really what Im looking for-however I may have to settle for just doing that since the horns are not adjustable

Use Hitec 5955's and the programmer. Makes this job very easy.

Thats not what I mean-What I want is equal throw in both directions and at the same time have the servo arm move the same distance each way from center. If I just adjust the linkage to hold the control surface at the center, then use the programmer to set the max throw each way, the geometry is way off.

Joe, I know exactly what you mean. Another guy from Finland, Norway or somewhere posted this same issue a few weeks ago. If the horn height is not adjustable then you can't match the geometry a la DOD method. I think you'll have to compensate electronically which will cause some mismatch in speeds. The aileron must have enough flex to be able to absorb it IMO. I think that's what people must be doing with this fixed horn height.

The only other thing you could do is drill new holes in one of them if you knew where the hole had to be. I think the inboard one would have to be lower.

Yep if you use the programmer you just set the deflection one servo at a time so they both match the throw you want.
