Josey you are correct on the rudder servo arms.

Okay guys, made some real progress, even though it did take a little longer, but the extra effort was worth it. Now that my 50mm drop headers came in I can lay-out the tuned pipes, open up the cannister bays, and make the tuned pipe mount. I made the cannister bays so that the pipes have to slide in through the front of the tuned pipe tunnel. The EF 110" Yak pipe tunnel is long and did not have to use the whole length, so I blocked off the unused part with a piece of balsa.

I know that these carbon fiber pipes do not dissapate heat very well, so like in my 88' Yak, So I stripped off the covering carefully and some vent holes out of balsa wood. Sanded the whole thing smooth and recovered it. It really dresses up the bottom, and is keeps plenty of air moving through.

Next I made the tune pipe mount. I designed it so that it comes apart, so that the pipe can easily slide in, and when in place it hold the pipe securly. I used black smoke oil line to insulate up against the CF pipes. I have used this in the past and works great!. Once pipe mount was glued in, cannister bays got the hi-temp BBQ grill back spray paint treatment, and the engine box got a shot of clear poly urathane. I think that the engine box and pipe tunnel already was fuel proofed, but I just wanted to be sure. After that I mounted the carbon fiber landing gear, which is included! LG installation was straight forward. The DA100 is mounted for good and the pipes look good installed.

I think will have to redo the throttle linkage so that it has more clearance from the header. I probably will have to change it to metal rod so that I can give it acouple of bends. Also I am not real comfortable with the throttle servo close to all that heat. I am using a Hitec HD 6975HB digital servo. I would like to know what you guys think. Will this servo be alright there or should I relocate the servo?

Hey Rennie,It's loooking gooood!! I would think that if Chris had it designed like that it would be fine.. Is that CF rod your using for your pushrod? Ive heard that CF will give you interferance,but if your using 2.4 Ill just shut up!!HAHAHA!![:)]. I sure would like that CF gear for my 88"Yak....Looks purty it does..

I've never run a servo that close to heat so I can't really say. You could mount it inside the motor box and cut a slit for the arm to poke through if you are worried about it. Heck use the current mount hole, just mount it inside the box. That would keep the servo case safe from any oil too.

Those pipes look totally trick! I like them black on black - it hides them really well. People will be trying to find you exhaust while your hovering and have trouble! [:D]

Good to see that carb covered up while sanding!

I think I will relocate the Servo to the inside of the Engine Box, and closer to the front. Like MartinArcher has suggestedl, I will lay the servo on its side and let the long metal servo arm poke thru the bottom of the box, just for piece of mind that the servo will not have a 'Melt Down' next to the headers. I will have to make a removable tray, because I will be glueing the top of the motor box down, even though Chris H. says it can be screwed down, I believe it will be alot stronger if I glued it down.

Hey Rennie, wonder if you could do me a favour? I'm going to be using Zimerman cans in my yak and need some dimensions for the headers. Could you be kind enough to take a few measurements for me please? The cans are 60mm dia, so i would like to know if they will fit under the undercart mount. I also see you have your headers offset slightly towards the center of the pipe tunnel, do you have a dimension for that? Would be much appreciated if you could do this for me please[;)]

Scoubidou, SKOOOOOOOOBY-DOOOOOOO! I love that cartoon! Anyway the tail wheel is just like the 88" except bigger. In fact other than the twin cylinder engine two exhaust pipe, and two servos on wings and rudder, this 110" Yak goes together just like the 88".........Its just BIGGER!


Nathan, If you use tune pipe rear exit you will have plenty of room. If you are using reverse exit cans, the tunnel above the landing plate will be a little tight, but I think it will fit. The ES Composite pipes are approx. 50 mm in diameter and it has plenty of room.

I have not heard from Chris about price yet, but I will get you answer tomorrow. Also I did get an update from Chris regarding the Main Rudder Control Servo Arm. He recommends the SWB 4.5" straight arm, which should work fine with the fiber glass control arms that is included in the kit.

Nathan, I was able to get you an accurate measurement on the tuned pipe clearance over the landing gear plate, it is 70mm, just enough to clear your 60mm cans.

Okay guys, I need a little input.

I am planning on running a 2500 4.8v NMH batt back on ignition, no switch or regulator, just the Smart-Fly cut-off switch. When I am done flying, I will just disconnect the mini Deans connector. I feel that this will get me through 5-6 flights, and a simple and light reliable set-up. My question is............

1) How many Flights can I get with a DA100 w/ a avg flight time 12 minutes?

2) Is there any difference between 4.8v and 6v?

3) any thoughts on my set-up?

sick with the 4.8v and you should get all day out of it,don't forget that DA likes 5.2v for ign.I run a 2600 7.4v reg. to 5.2v on Jonathans Extra and will get all weekend out of a single charge..Now get buisy so that you can test fly that beast this Sunday........[sm=lol.gif]

Hey all,

After much thought I actually had to relocate the Throttle Servo, even though Chris H. and others have told me that the throttle servo would be fine sitting there between the header pipes. I opted to relocate for two reasons: 1) I wasn't comfortable with the servo and CF linkage soo close the the header pipe, 2) the stock metal blue servo arm as hitting the tuned pipe coupler.

So I built a removable servo tray that can be removed even after gluing the motor box top on. Chris H. says the motor box top can be screwed down, but I have arranged everything in the motor box to be removable and accessable, with the top glued down. Once every thing was done, I had a little more clearance with this set-up. I also used an HS5945 metal geared servo for the throttle. Yeah I know it is over kill on torque, but it is really fast, and I had it in stock.

We are in Final assembly mode!

Throttle servo & linkage installed and programmed. Fuel tank, fuel line, filter.......all plumbed in ready to go. I will finish up wiring the Smart-Fly Kill switch, servo wiring and the rest of the electronics in the fuselage tonight. My goal is to have the cowl fitted and installed w/ prop and spinner by tomorrow night. Engine test fire this weekend!.......[:D]
