Okey Dokey don't try to kill me here. BUT What is Pattern Flying. I understand 3D even though I don't have a clue as to why it is called that. But know what someone is talking about when they say it. Understand Combat, Pylon Racing, most other stuff but I am kinda new at flying less than a yr. and just don't know what Pattern Flying is supposed to be. Far as I can understand a patten is what i do mostly before i go to trying 3d stuff, which is just to fly around in mainly the same pattern. Go the lentgh of the flying field turn and come back. Fly in circles is that what is meant. I don't think that is what it is but for the life of me I really don't know what pattern flying is meant to be. I might enjoy it more than 3D(doing tricks at a slow speed) I do like flying fast but also enjoy seeing how slow i can do stuff also. Thanks and really don't act like i am a fool I just am kinda trying to understand what Pattern Flying really is.

When you hear someone say "Get in the pattern" they're probably wanting you to follow the conventional left-hand-turn or right-hand-turn oval around the field, on that given day.

When you hear someone speak of "Pattern Competition", that refers to a fixed sequence of precision aerobatic maneuvers set by an organization like NSRCA or IMAC for competition events.

I remember being confused about those uses of the term. Interesting stuff, go for it.

Best wishes,
Dave Olson
