Status: offline 		Attached are a few pictures of the Napier getting ready for the paint. The model has been primed and wet sanded, down to 1000 grit, and is ready for the color coat.

Status: offline 		Go back and sandit 1 more time ,but with 600 no finer. If you don.t the paint will peel when you masked it off for a trim color

Status: offline 		The Napier has the color coat in these pictures. The bottom of the airplane is predominantely red in the picture.

The clear coat goes on tomorrow.

Status: offline 		The radio installation is now complete and weather permitting I will make the maiden flight this weekend.

The first picture shows the antenna installation of a Futaba 2.4GHz receiver. The next couple pictures show that there is plenty of room for full size servos. Expect a 2 ounce weight penalty verses a mini servo installation.

I have had good luck with the Futaba 6EX-2.4GHz system. They are available at very competitive prices and are ideal for racing. It is a computer radio and the transmitter supports 6 different models. All the dual rate functions are on a single switch so it make it easy to switch to high rate after the engine is shut off. JR servos plug right into the receiver and work fine.

Status: offline 		The picture shows the guys from Kevin Lewing's Body Shop that helped me finish the model. Thanks Guys. I couldn't finish it without you.

I made the first flights today. Wow! This thing is smooth and fast. I set it up with minimal throw and controls were positive and precise, even with inexpensive servos. I made wide pylon turns to familiarize myself and before the end of the flight I was comfortable with the controls.

The Thunder Tiger motor ran great but would not shut off (this was later fixed) so I ran it out of gas. I then switched it to high rate and glided it in for a smooth landing. I was pleasantly surprised because it actually glides very good. All in all a very good first flight.

Status: offline 		This type of model flies around 130 mph with a Thunder Tiger Pro 40.

The guys that race with the true racing engines, Jett and Nelson, get around 170 to 190 mph.

I would expect that you will get somewhere over 130 and less than 190 mph.

You might consider the Thunder Tiger Pro 40 if you want to race. There is a sport class being considered (425) for this engine.

Status: offline 		I made several more flights on the Napier. The following are the suggested control throws:

Ailerons: Hi rate 5/16", Low 3/16"
Elevator: Hi rate 1/4", Low 5/32"
Rudder: 1/2"

Use Hi rate during take off and landing. For the rest of the flying use Low rate.

Initially I used a 6 ounce tank in my model. I later switched to a 4 ounce tank and still have plenty of time to fly the pylons and fly around another couple minutes.

For props the APC 9x7 and 9x8 work well.

Attached is a copy of the instructions. The original document was written in Word and did not convert very well to .txt.
