Just recently finished a ikarus Bell UH-D1 body and mounted it to my hummingbird. It works but with some modifications. So for those out there wanting to know the ikarus line of bodies work and look awesome.....

Too cool! Now you just need some toy plastic guns to stick out the side doors and you'll be set!

Definitely report back on how it flies!

Nice Work!! Great Camo paint. I too am interested to hear how it flies. Piccolos that have these Ikarus scale bodies all seem to need a main motor upgrade of some kind just to get out of GE. I will be amazed if you can get it to two to three feet off the deck in a hover with the stock H'Bird 280 motor. Wish you luck.

Well done, moos4bkfst, good pioneering job for all us FEDA/HB flyers. You've shown us that the conversion can be done, now, as hoverup says, you'll have to report back on flight characteristics to see if it a practical option.

A good start might be to utilise LiPoly batteries. I use these on my FEDA and, although I'm no expert, they are at least as good, if not better, than the NiMH's supplied with the heli.

Another pointer is that I use training gear, and if the weight of the Huey body is the same as the weight of this gear, I'm in good shape for the extra payload of a body when I feel I can discard it.

I've always liked the "utilitarian" look of the Iroquois, a shape synonymous with the Vietnam war - two main rotor blades too! Scale blades anyone?

i am going to use (2) 1200 lipoly packs and with everything inside the heli it weighs 9 oz without blades, so im thinking it will come to about 10.5 oz flying wieght. The body kit gives you a more fowerfull motor (from ikarus, I dont know how it will work, we will se) and im using the new JR 281 digital micro servos, so I will let you know how it flies as soon as I can get some tail blades. Ill keep you posted...

Ok so I flew the heli. I had to use (3) 1200 mah li-poly packs to fly but it flew. I had some vibration and I fixed it by gluing small foam blocks in the side of the heli to stabalize it. The canopy is a little wierd as it doesnt want to stay on with the attachments they provide so I need to figure out something different. As for the flying, Using the ikarus motor and stock (10tooth) pinion and a 3 cell 1200 mah li-poly pack it hover great and is very stable. i was able to get about 12 minutes on my first flight. I havnt taken it outside for some forward flight yet because its too windy but I think it will fly good. For those looking for a cool fuse for the hb, i would recomend these. there are some mods you need to do to adapt the hb but if you test fit everything and be carefull, it will work good. I will let you know how the forward flight goes.
