Hello,

I am a graduate film student in California. I am working on a film that includes a scene of a r/c airplane towing an aerial banner. The banner is rather long - it contains 37 characters, not including the spaces between words. I am aware of the fact that the weight of the banner is crucial. If I were to work with a model similar to the Yak 54 ARF-QB Quick Build, what would be the best way to construct this banner?

I am looking for advice on building materials (where the materials can be purchased) and also any estimates on cost. I am applying for a grant to cover the costs of this scene and I need to know the approx. price range for making and building something like this.

I appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Seanreit,

Because I am true novice, I dont really know the anticipated size. I would be willing to go as big as possible since the banner should be as legible as possible. I have been in touch with a local flyer who belongs to a club where they have r/c planes that go from a 60 inch wing span to 108 inch wing span.

Any ideas or advice?
Is there a particular store/retailer that you would recommend I talk to?

Thanks,
jenna

What would be best is to make test banner that you think would show up well. Then take that to your local RC field with a roll of kite string.

Talk to anyone there that will listen to you, and someone there will be willing to tie your banner to their airplane so you can see it in the air.

Best to go on a Saturday or Sunday, after 12pm. Also, during the week the older fellas that are retired are sometimes at local fields during the weekdays. Might have some luck there as well.

There is no formula that I know of that says "this airplane will pull this banner". So best to make a mock up and go test. The guys at the field will know if what you've made is too big.
