I just got back from flying my pizza box flyer (it's on it's 15th flight) I like it so much that i'm ready to build my next spad.

What's the fastest .40 spad out there, it actually doesn't have to be .40 because i have a OS .40 LA which is more like a .35 so anything between .25 and .40 would work, I would prefer a delta wing design but I'm not 100% sure.

Check out the Dogfighter, Bulldawg, or Flipper ( at http://spadworld.net/ ) and I think one will satisfy your "need for speed."

I think that the bull dog is the one for me, i like the looks of it and the construction, the only problem I see is the avialiability of the gutter pipe. I have heard of using the coro to make the fuselage but I have no idea how to do this. I'm sorry if these questions have already been asked

The sickle is a good choice too. Its a solid flyer and a ton of fun.

search SPAD TO THE BONE for coro fuse or search here

a coro fuse is lighter and stronger if made right and if you do it wrong ...try again, it just a bit o plastic! Just think light and design your own.

Coroplast Fuselage w/ Sickle pics.

If you're looking for all out speed, go with a symmetrical winged craft. This sickle moves at a good clip with a .46AX and APC 10x7 prop. Pondering trying a 9x8 next. With this setup, releasing this from my hand when launching at WOT, it seems to lunge out of my hand when I start to release it. The vertical is sick.

Have you looked at the Diamond Dust? I built one and powered it with a .40 LA. It's pretty quick and builds fast. It took me a couple tries to get the hang of hand launching a glow ... but I finally got there.

I'll put in a plug for the Draco ( Terror of the sky's )
It will fly great fast or slow and can turn and burn with the best of them.
It's a flying wing like the Sickle but doesn't have a fuse.
It's a little more complicated to build as it has a tapered LE and TE and a double tapered spar with the servos hidden inside the wing.

My ddust came out kinda heavy (had to use 1/4" ply for the ribs) but I clocked it at 100 mph. Used a 46fx with a 9x9 apc. wing was 35" span.

If you have an Agway store nearby they can order 2.5" sq downspout for you. The current price is about $15 for 10'. They say it is vinyl but I think it is pvc. Works well.

pvc = polyvinyl chloride

who knows, you might've gotten more with a 10x7 or 10x8 apc. Mine really unloaded in the air, i was spinning well over 23 grand with a 21 buggy engine, and a 7x6. That was on the smaller size, though. But, with a tt 36, i know it was doing 120+. Just almost too small and too fast to keep up with. I can't imagine it with the same setup and a tuned pipe, or MCP. It was unreal as it was.

Here is a SPAD I built with a OS 46 and a tower hobbies muffler.

We clocked it at 130mph

I was using a APC 9x6 at the time running around 15,000. Broke it during landing that is why there is a MAS on it now.

The wing is 48" and has a small Al U channel to make it very slim and strong.
Plan on building a new plane with a JETT 35 to see if I can go faster.

9x6 at 15000, must have had a very strong tailwind or a very high dive to get 130 out of her, 9x6 at 15000 is only 85MPH pitch speed, how did the engine gain 10000RPM in the air?.

acarter my OS .40la isn't even close to a .35, my Magnum .15 has almost as much power as my .40la

OS .40 LA 11x5 @ 10500rpm .605HP 4.34lbs thrust
MAG .15XLS 8x3 @ 18000rpm .512HP 3.98lbs thrust

The engine is a OS 46AX. The org. muffler removed and the Tower Hobbies muffler from the Tower 46 is used. It will give you more RPM's on the OS.
We Tach the engine up with the 9x6 APC Prop, it usually peaks at 15200 to 15300, then we back it off about 200 to keep it from over heating.

This is how we clock our planes. I use a Robic SC-554 stop watch. (see picture) I get two people 300ft apart, one to signal and one to run the stop watch. When the plane reaches the signal person he drops his arm and the person with the stop watch starts the watch and stops it when the plane passes him we have the mph.
This stop watch has the ability to cal. mph by putting in the distance (300') between to points.

I found that a high dive to the signal person then leveling out slows the plane down. A small dive then leveling out some distance before the signal person gives the best speed. For safety the people are back off the run way in the safe area and the plane is flown accross
the top of the run way about 20ft off the ground.
