Status: offline 		I am an airplane guy, but I bought a Kyosho Fairwind 900 to try out sailing with.

My question is: Other than having someone silk screen graphics on the sails, how can I apply some color (possibly all or part of sail) and graphics that will still allow proper function?

But, I will still answer your question for you.

You put graphics on the sails the same way you would with any other old sailing vessel. You have a couple of old salts climb the sails and paint them with the blood of the hapless captured and killed victims of their their last "booty" raid. Of course.

All other stupid questions must be accompanied by an explanation of why graphics belong on a sailplane that flies so high you can't see them anyway. Hah, so there!!!

Status: offline 		Lordy, Lordy, obviously tis "My friend from Lunar 5" on the other end of the banter. Who else would I confuse unknowingly with Chas!!! Forgot that Chas didn't have a CAP 232 and you did after I looked at your photo gallery.

Don't worry about spending money at TSG for the sails graphics just yet, I am totally ignorant about sail BOATS (I didn't realize it was a sail boat, not a sailplane until my alert mail said I had a response post from the boat section of RCU).

There are companies that will do vinyl graphics to your specifications. Go to Google and type it in to search or type "custom vinyl graphics" and see what comes up. Careful though, there are some really affordable ones and some wow, we got your money ones out there. Good Luck. vince.

Status: offline 		I'd be against putting vinyl stick-ons on sails. The vinyl would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to get a good shape set....

Status: offline 		Eventully you wont use the stock sails any way. I am an avid racer with my victoria and the best thing to do is use kite material in whatever patterns you can find/like.

Status: offline 		What fabric/vendor do you use, MS? I have a Mariner Sails kit on my Vic and it's nicer than stock (anything's nicer than stock) but I'm always looking around.

Status: offline 		I've been considering the same problem. I thought about using an airbrush and a light coat of enamel paint. However, I worry about it flaking off, so I was also considering using Pactra paints, since they stay flexible. Next time I go to the local sailing club, I will ask them how they customize their boat’s sails.

What material is used for your boat’s sails?

Status: offline 		Ive used Mariner and Carr sails. However, my uncle is godlike in sail disign and makes us custum built 4 panal sails with absoulutly perfect curves.

Status: offline 		We have a few graphic shops in town that do silk screening. For between $10 to $40 they can do custom graphics on just about any type of material and it can be flexible and waterproof. Check the Yellow Pages.

Status: offline 		I have a set of Carr sails for my Victoria. We all use sharpie brand markers (perm). This was on advise from Rod Carr. Works well and you can trace a graphic etc...They come in a "rainbow" of colors as well. If you mess up you can use a smallamount of acetone on a q-tip and clean it right up.
