I'm in the market for a set of new tires/wheels for my Savage X. I'm not to knowledgeable in this department yet so there are a few questions I have:

23 series and 40 series-what are they? size?

beadlocks-what are they and are they recommended?

I want something with somewhat of an aggessive tread. I am more of a basher but most of my bashing is at the track, so I want it to hook up well with the hard packed dirt surface. I also don't want to lose the speed. I feel like bigger tires will slow it down a bit, but I could be wrong.

As for the wheels, I would like to have a bit of a wider stance. I have the stock set up now, so what is that...17mm hexes? What would I need to do if I got wheels with a 23 mm hex or whatever other sizes there are?

Haven't heard of 23 series. Maybe wheels with 23mm hexes? If thats the case, you don't need'em, as 17mm works great for most folks and has a better selection of wheels to choose from. 40 series are a wheel/tire combo that run a larger wheel with a lower profile tire, with the same (mostly) outer diameter you've got now. Sharper handling on smoother surfaces such as many tracks, but not generally great for bashing on rougher surfaces or tracks. Beadlocks are a kind of wheel that holds the tire on with a band and small bolts. This eliminates the need for glue. Nice for when you have to change tires (and they look cool), but they're heavy, hurting acceleration, and, to a lesser extent, handling due to the increase in unsprung weight. For a straight basher, they're great, but only if you mind a speed and acceleration penalty. I'm in the same boat you are tire-wise, and am seriously considering a light dish wheel with a set of regular profile Proline Badlands. Not quite as good as small pin tires on really hard packed surfaces, but much more versatile and durable. You can get 1/2 inch offset wheels, mostly in beadlocks, I think. This will make the truck more stable, but will affect the handling some as well. Also makes the truck tougher to navigate on narrow sections of track. Hope this helps....

savage x is 17mm. If you run at the track I would get some 1/2 offset(sits out wider than 0 offset) dish wheels and some bowties or crimefighters. These would be the maxx tire or mtr size.

No need for the 23mm hexes IMO

You could also get a 40 series which is a wider tire, but personally I like the standard width tire with an offset wheel more at the track.

I like dirt-bonz and pro-line 1/2'' offset 17mm rims They are super light and fast. I also have GT2 tires and 6.5" mashers and I have to say the bonz are the best. Mashers hook up but are a little heavy and the GT2 are not as light as bonz. I also use Maximizer composite 17mm hexs they are cheap and all you need if you run a light tire but other wise I hear the can strip. The bonzs look small but they perform so well you won't care. I prefer pin tires and dish rims but that’s just me.

I don't like bead-locks because they are heavy. 23mm hexs are good for large tires and massive engines. I have no idea about 23 & 40 series tires just go to Tower Hobbies and search. I have found that $28 40 series foam don't work with 6'' tires

Thanks for the responses. I guess I just made up the 23 series thing getting it confused with 23 mm hexes. lol.

The main thing I want is a bit bigger of a tire giving the truck more ground clearance for bashing but also to hook up like i said previously at the track. I was checking out the Pro-line badlands- http://www.pro-lineracing.com/proline.html

The seem like they have an aggressive tread and won't weight too much. Anybody have these? How do you like them?

I realy like my Maxamizers and Zombies alot. They are a great all around tire
and i have not had any problem with my beadlocks at all. Here is a pic of them.
I wanted a differant look so i got the rock rings for the rims.

I'm getting a set of zombies as soon as I find a set of beadlocks in the right size that aren't the maximizer brand....(not sure why, but, I don't like the way their site explains the setup, that, and I don't like the look of the ones I needed/wanted)

the badlands are nice, i've been looking at them for a while. the reason holding me back however, is that they will look really small on my savage. even though proline states that they are MT size i think they be more fit for truggies .

Ok, so let's say I go with a big tire like the moabs...they are bigger than the badlands. I'm just curious if I will lose a lot of acceleration and top speed? how about with the zombies?
