Thanks for the reply guys. I'm going to think about what to do, but im leaning towards scaling the 1/8 plans to a 49" or so. I know it wont be true scale but i'm riding for fun. No hydro class in my Country.

Junkie. That Charlie is i think the most beautiful scale boat i have ever seen Very impressive scale detailing.

PS. If you look away from the distorting of the cowl, do you think a 44" hydro would be unstable with a Zen? Is it the torqueroll that would be a issue?

Why not buy a zipkits hydro they come with or without cowl and the motor is fully covered by the cowl ? price is good and shipping is only $30 for the kit and same for the cowl to the uk so wont be much diff to you mate.Boat will do upto 60pluss with a stock zen according to lots who have them in the states.

Hey tt-r,

Without trying to muddy the waters any further or hijack Virginians thread the answer to your question is "maybe". I beleive Junkie hit on a key element of using 1/8th scale plans, as drawn they would be too weak to support the heft of a gas engine. If you added frames and increased the engine rail thickness to 1/4" an 1/8th scale plan would work, sort of, but would suffer from weight and lift issues. If you scaled the plans up to say 120% http://www.jrcbd.com/showthread.php?t=10477 (btw this builder is Roger Newton, the author of the plans we are speaking of) your hull will have a much better shot at success. Scale or not this boat will most likely rock-n-roll and at 54"X25" she will support the Zenoah just fine. Hope this helps, now let's get back to the show Virginian, lol.

Scott

Sorry. Not my intention to hijack Virginian's thread. But thank you for good answers Back to the threads original context. Go for it Virginian

Martno1fan; I have looked at the zippkits, but i really want a picklefork turbine.

Don't worry, Chief. This is what it's all about. Boats and especially Hydros. By starting a building thread I knew up front that people would not soley admire my build but get somewhat side tracked and use it for their commentaries as well. New progress report will be posted soon.

tt-r, the pictures of the "Charlie" don't do it justice. If you ever get out to the Seattle area, it is presently on display at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent, along with severa lother works of art, both small and full scale

Have you thought about radiogear and tank placement?

I would put the radio gear in the compartment right behind the engine and the tank in the compartment to the engine's right, with access through the bottom

most times in my area, the fuel line is just pulled off the carb and used as a filler. Since a Zen has two lines, you could use the return line as well

Junkie, you hit the nail on the head. Indeed, the intented radio compartment is right behind the motor. The tank(s) should fit in front of the motor. I am thinking of putting two small tanks, left and right in front of the motor. If that space is too small then I will utilize the space right next to the motor.

yea but buy a filler that fixes on the deck and you wont have to pull fuel lines off .they also look cool if you buy the right ones.
