I would like to say hi!

I'm going to buy a HL tank from Mato tonight, but would like to know what everyone thinks about getting the upgaded track version?

Are they worth it? I think so.

is there any diffrence from the Panzer III to the tiger?

I can't get the panzer III with the upgraded tracks as a package but I can get the Tiger.

Is anyone built diffrent then the next or are there any problems with one tank and not the other?

thanks for the help.

Just a newbie trying to figure whats going to be best for me.

Welcome aboard! To me metal tracks are worth every penny and you save a bit when you buy them up front. As to which tank to get, get the one you like. They all have identical electronics. As for how they run, they have different things to watch for, just like the real ones. Pick the one you like, don't worry you'll soon buy the other! NOBODY on this forum ever stuck with one tank.

Thanks

from what I've seen they all seem to be the same, so picking the one I like the most makes sence.
I live in canada so shipping costs are great through them.

cheers

panzer3 is MUCH smaller in physical size then the tiger. the tiger is about the biggest one you can get. if you glue the panzer3 treads at the pin ends it runs just fine on plastic tracks. i do not know about the panzer3, but the tiger has a weak rear idler for the back wheels (keeps them straight and holds the tracks taught and inline when turning). there is many upgrades/replacement threads on here. I left my idlers stock.

so really it would be tiger if you want a massive dominating tank or a panzer3 if you want a small nimble quick tank. I would say i was more impressed with the panzer3 then the tiger.

The Stuff may have an older tank without reinforcements in the plastic at the rear idler. Or he like to drive it backwards into brick walls and jump ramps with it!

Is the panzer 3 that much better then the Tiger? or is it more about prefrence.

I do like the idea of a smaller tank, but would like to have the upgraded tracks.

I like the look of both equally.

how much bigger is the Tiger?

if you were going to buy your first tank would you get the Tiger with the steel tracks or the PanzerIII without the steel tracks?

thanks

how good are you with fixing, modeling, asembling stuff, does it come easy to you>? If yes, go for the Tiger get all metal upgrade chassis and in the FAQ section and other location these guys have a step by step how manual, and we will all give you a ton of help!
If you pay for other people to fix everything that you own, and never built a platic model in your life then you may get frustrated, but a Panzer III and glue the pins in and off you go!

The Tiger is probably 1/3 larger then the PZIII. The real Tiger had troubles with their tracks getting stuck in frozen mud and jammed with rocks and stuff because of the interlevered road wheels. They would also throw the track when backing and turning at the same time if not done carefully. Same issues with the 1/16 Tiger. The PZIII has skinny tracks, hence it you have to be careful where you drive it, just as the real tank commanders did. As for the 1/16 PZIII, their tracks pins sometimes come out, so does the Tiger, but it's an easy fix and already mentioned here. Get what you like most, you'll buy the other soon enough!

I'm good with fixing stuff, have had lots of rc stuff ie: heli's ,mini-t's, t-maxxs. So I think I'll go with the Tiger for now and the PZIII next if I get more into tanks.

I like this site and will post my thoughts on it when it arrives.

thanks

I dunno how many times I've seen it - track links broke, pins slipping out, tracks falling off - but in my 2-3 years of owning a HL Tiger the ONLY time I started having any issues was when I added an extra link per side for track sag. The increased slop allowed the track to overrun the idler on random terrain in reverse (no biggie). None of my pins have even come half loose - and my HL Tiger is one of the originals!

How about track stretch Wacky? On my oldest Tiger and Pershing I've pulled a link from each side and they're sagging again, especially the Pershing. These tanks have at least 100 hours on them.

Well it's all said and done, got the Tiger S&S from Mato with the steel tracks. $172.00 canadian after taxes, a little more then I wanted to spend on my X-mas present but O-well.

Thanks for your thoughts ladies and gents. I'll take some pics when I get it.

cheers

when i got mine it had the metal gearbox installed but comes with the stock plastic treads and sprockets on it. in a box inside the box is the metal treads and sprockets. give it a good break in then drive around on the plastic treads for a bit to see what it is like then put on those nice heavy treads!
