well Obviously forwards and maybe reverse, left and right turn/traverse and it possible, turret rotation as seen on that panzer IV video I posted. But I'm guessing I'd need a 1/16 scale model if I wanted that and so far I haven't seen anything for less than £50.

In the end you get what you pay for. The HL tanks provide all those functions. However the Somke and sound tanks have a more proportional spped control (and smoke and sound)

1/35 isn't really viable, they're more of an indoor flat-surface runner, not much room for anything. 1/16 is my scale of choice, but if you want a half-decent Panzer IV you have two choices -- convert the cheap 1/18 Panzer IV from 21st Century to better electronics, or spend big and get the (out of production) Bandai Panzer IV.

1/35 just isnt worth it, not even converting a static model - you spend much more in the long run for a tank that can barely tank on pebbles. Personally if I was gonna do it, I'd get a 21st Century Panzer IV, convert to use Heng Long S&S electronics so you have proper control of it... decent enough detail, won't fall to bits...

Pics to follow shortly, of the working room with 1/35 Panzer IV

As you can see in the following pics, Panzer IV 1/35 isnt very viable without a crapload of work (those japanese static scale kit conversions have had lots of money and time thrown at them), the suspension is thin and wouldnt hold up without extensive mods and small rocks will give it hell.

For scale comparison I have used a standard AA size battery and a blank DVD disk (since everyone has those...). The AA battery JUST fits sideways inside the hull, and the top of the turret is about as high as the upper part of the centre hub/spindle of a DVD sitting upright.

Wow, i didn't realise how small 1/35 was. I guess I need one of those panzer IV's from 21st century. Where can I get one?

I'm going to be selling mine soon. It's a 21st Century 1/18 panzer IV that has been upgraded to the HL smoke and sound. You can see pics of it on here (they are recent)

Write a reply (or start a thread), when you're done: just under the box where you write everything it has

" Click here to upload images and files! "

Click that, and up pops a window. Click on the top-most "Browse" and navigate your computer for the image/pic/photo you wish to upload. Once you've clicked it hit open. If you are uploading more photos click the next "Browse" and do the same (find the pic, hit open). Once you're done selecting the pic(s) you wish to upload, hit "OK" and they will begin to transfer to the server. Depending on the size it could take seconds to minutes. I usually make my photos a little smaller (shrink them) so they load quick for everyone (including dialup). Once its all done it will say that its complete, then you hit OK/close.

Go back to where you've typed your reply, then hit OK -- this confirms your reply AND puts your post together with the uploaded pics for everyone to see.

Can I just ask, where do you get heng long electronics? Do you salvage them from tanks you own or do you buy them online?

the good ole bay (E-bay) look for pugwash the seller there not expensive and you can buy the full s+s set controller drive and rx board plus speaker and smoker for about £35 the same price roughly as a reciever ie futaba so in comparison not bad IMHO
although you will struggle with the speaker and smoker so these are not in my tanks and i modded an old servo to drive the turret.
that said i still favour the hl tanks 1/16 just for there size and eaze of doing things the best hls in my opinion
are pershing (snow leopard)
m41 bulldog
pzIII
and the tiger
there panther or pantiger is O.K if you've never seen a photo of a real one
then you go to tamiyas line up but they are big money but you do get the quality with possibly a few issues
