I recently returned from Afghanistan and couldn't wait to get back to my sim. Problem is it won't work. I'm using the same computer and tx (Futaba T4YF) and it worked fine before I left but now it doesn't recognize the tx. I can't assign channels or calibrate. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software and patches but with no luck. I know I should stop being cheap and upgrade to AFPD but I just can't right now. I do seem to recall that I had a devil of a time getting it to work the first time when I first got it but I don't remember what I did to get it going. PLEASE HELP!? Thanks much.

Hi Tony, did you set your radio to PPM mode? Also make sure that you push the male/female connectors between the Tx adapter cord and the usb cable all the way in.

As far as I know my tx doesn't have different modes. If it does, I've never known it and don't know how to change it. I don't remember having to change anything on the tx the first time I installed the sim.

Yes all plugs and connections are secure.

Did you switch on the radio? Remember to remove the xtal. Which patch did you use? Did you install any expansion pack?

Yes the radio's on. I didn't have to remove the xtal any other time. I used the patch V. 1.6.8.6 as found on the Ipacs website. Yes I installed the expansion pack vol. 1.

Its good to remove the xtal, otherwise your radio might be transmitting and this might overheat and damage the RF circuit, plus your battery will not last long.

The installation sequence is main disk, expansion pack, then lastly patch. if this sequence is not followed, you would have to unsinstall and reinstall in the proper sequence.

What type of adapter are you using between the serial cable and the radio? Does it have the square plug or the round DIN plug?

Since you've been away for some time, perhaps it is also good if you could check if your radio and battery are in good condition. Can you check your radio and battery using your r/c aircraft? Can it still transmit signals to the receiver?

As I understood it when I first got the sim, it wasn't necessary to remove the xtal. I'll try it if I can get the software to work. I did install in correct sequence, several times. No luck. I'm using the square plug specifically for Futaba radios and the battery is new. Just bought it last week and properly charged.

Hi Tony, pls post your tmlog file here. You can locate this file in your AFP program folder and open it with a text editor like word or notepad.

I would also like you to check the connections in your adapter cable for your Futaba radio. Do you have a multimeter?

Regarding the necessity of xtal removal, it depends on your radio design as well as the adapter design. Some Futaba radios with the correct adapter design will automatically disable the RF circuit and switch the radio on when the adapter is plugged into the radio. You could do a simple test i.e. just plug in your adapter, leave the xtal in the radio, and see if your receiver is picking up any signal.
