So I've had this plane kicking around the garage for awhile now. I got a few other projects done so now I'm hot to get this done. I wouldn't dare call it a build thread just an assembly thread for anyone that may be interested in this kit.

I started with installing the servos in the wing and rudder. I went with the Hitec Thin digital metal gear wing servo's (HS-5125) on ailirons and rudder. I normally go over kill on everything. But Tam is useing them with good results on his A-4 so I went for it. They are very light at .84 oz compared to 2 oz. for most digital servos. I also used Tams servo mounts... very nice and easy to install servos...I didn't use any of the hardware in the kit.

First I burned in all my servo on the hitec programmer... I let them run for 30 minutes each.... one servo was bad right out of the box.. bought a new one and sent back the bad one..

Tam also hooked me up with this very cool cockpit from his F-16...
I got it all trimmed up and installed.. I left out the dash it was over 1oz
So it may be a bit heavy but I love it.. with cockpit and canopy frame it's 8oz

I had a screw break on me puting in the nose gear.. I had to drill it out and replace

it took a small amount of trimming to get the gear to go up nice and clean

So of coarse I had to mock it up and get a look at her on her legs..
it's coming along nice..

My plan now is to make up two small wood plates .One to mount my retract air valve too and micro servo the other for the brake valve and. I'm going to put these up under the ledge where the wing roots meet.. I'll have one on each side.. Then the air tanks back along side the thrust tube...

I'll ditch the big heavy wood plate under the canopy.. just velcro in the batteries there... put the RX batt way back in the tail.. RX up in the nose..
and hope my CG is good

So this is where I'm at for now keep ya posted... I need to bust this out so I can get to my Tam Jets A-4

So I got a few things done... I've got the flu so I'm bored and thought I'd put up a few pics.

I made up a couple small plates to mount my retract and brake valve on.. I'm putting these up along the side of the fan. The retract valve that comes with the kit is leaking. So I put in one I had.. but it's slamming the gear up too hard. I ordered a robart variable valve so I can slow it down. Of course they are on backorder just about everywhere. I found one at DreamWorks. Todd’s a great guy to deal with.

Don't give me a hard time for the mess of wires I have ..
I'm going to clean it up real nice once I have things where I want them

The brakes are working very strong... is there an adjustment at the wheels to loosen them up?

Ron

Ron,

If you don't like the Robart valve adjustments I have some airflow restrictors you can try. They are inline restrictors w/ bards on either end for tubing.

I'm not familiar with the main gear you have, but a little grease on the contact surface will help with smoothing out the braking. A proportional brake valve is ideal as well.

How are the stabilizer servos held down inside the fuse? Did you glue the mount down so that you can remove the servo if necessary?

Ken

Hey Ken

I've had pretty good luck with the robart adj. valve on warbirds... so if it give me problems I'll give those a restictors a try.
thanks for the offer.

Grease.. thats a good idea.. it's just so tight.. affaid if I hit the brakes it will rip the gear off...lol
your right I should get a BVM smooth stop.. but I'm being cheap ken

as for the stabilizer servos.. I glued down tam jets mounts then screwed the servo to the mount.. so if needed the servo can be replaced (see pic)

I wish I wouldn't have seen you alfa a-4... it's on the must have list..
Do you have any winter projects going on over there ken?

Ron
