Friends,

Anybody have one of these yet?

http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1472.html

Seems like they came out just in time for the holidays.

Doesn't have the scale "wing fairings" ...either does the 25 size GP Spitfire.

It's got the heaviest wing loading of all compared to the 3 other .Great Planes 25 size combat ARFS.

I picked one up last week and just started building it last night. Looks nice and everything feels solid. I'm a slow builder/assembler so i probably won't fly it until next week Saturday. I have no experience with the other GP combat planes but I see them fly at my field every weekend.

If you don't need the landing gear, check out the Ripmax Spitire and P51. They are great flying planes and are very fast with a Eflight 25 motor in them. A friend of mine has the GP P40 and loves it. It flies very nice, but not as nice as the Ripmax ones

I got one should be finished tomorrow or the next day will post pictures when I'm done only mod I made was a tail wheel and I went with the EP motor and speed controler GP recommended. I also sprayed the entire plane with dull coat didn't like the shiny ultra coat.

Well finished the plane last night followed the instruction manual and every thing went together like it said. Wing halfs fit fine tail section fit like it should. I used hitec HS-81MG servos all around had to make a little notch for the wires to fit in outher then that they slipped right in. I powered my P-40 with the Rimfire 35-30-1450 and a Greatplanes 45amp speed controler. This set up gave me more then enough power. The maiden flight was perfect had to give 2 clicks down and 4 clicks left aileron. The plane is a great little plane flys well loops and rolls like scale and easy to land. I for one am sure glad Great planes jumped on the band wagon with these great EP warbirds.

I built one last week and already have about ten flights under my belt. It's equipped with an OS .25 FX and Hitec HS-81MG servos. I fly off a grass strip and my only complaint is the typical nose over during taxi. Once the throttle is set for take-off power and you have some up elevator, there are no problems. I did go to larger wheels (2.25) and that has helped. If you fly off a hard surface, you will not have any issues with nose overs during taxi. I also added a tail wheel instead of using the supplied skid.

I set my radio with three rates. My high rates are max throw and are used for take-off and landing. My medium rates are the manuals recommended high rates which is great for general aerobatics. The recommended high rates allow you to spin and tumble the plane without any tip stalls with full up elevator and full throttle. The recommended low rates are very docile and are good for pylon racing and high speed passes. This plane even knife edges with stability at high speed.

The supplied fuel tank gives my about a ten minute flight at full throttle. It dead sticks nicely so I usually run it out of fuel on every flight.

Assembly is a breeze. It went together in about five hours with absolutely no problems. I could find no mistakes in the manual.

I can't imagine a better flying small scale plane. It's a joy to fly and is definitely a permanent model in my hangar.

What % fuel and what size prop are you using with the 25fx?

What do you "guestimate" your top speed is on a straight away pass with a WOT?

I'm using Cool Power 15% and an APC 8 x 6 prop. My engine is still new so I'm running it rich, however, it seems VERY fast. Once the run in is complete, I will install an Ultra Thrust muffler for an extra several hundred rpms.

I'm not sure what you mean by "WOT".

Sorry,

WOT means Wide Open Throttle.

How many feet do you have to keep her on the ground before ishe has enuf lift to take off w/out tip stalling?

Take off roll is no more than 20 feet.

For those running electric power and taking off on hard surface it is a very easy plane to ground control I ease on the throttle little at a time slowly building up speed take up about 200 feet of runway and lift off ever so slow to get a good looking scale take off and running a 2100 mah battery with throttle control have my timer set for 12 min and have never went dead stick. I only use single rate try to keep it as close to scale as I can nothing worse to me then a warbird making 3d turns. It is close to the same as the Great Planes combat Corsair the p-40 is not as heavy making it faster over all I like the corsair better but the P-40 is by all means a nice plane.

I feel the same way about a warbird powered by anything other than an internal combustion engine.
