If u think the arf takes a long time, u should try building it from a box of sticks!!! I never knew a kit was so much work....
I wish I could get an arf.....but with shipping costs to ireland....it works out at $500....but i suppose now would be a good time to buy....because the dollar is so weak compared to the euro...

I have built a few kits and they do take a LOT longer than the ARF's do. I usually do an ARF for planes I just want to fly right now and build kits when I want a plane that doesnt come as an ARF or when I just get a wild hair going to build a kit. I actually would have gotten the Kadet done in a couple of evenings but was waiting till the replacement wing showed up. Then when it arrived with identical damage, had to order yet another one. Meanwhile, the hobby shop burned down. Next day, my plane hauler broke down with a cracked cylinder head.
The replacement wing is probably at the LHS by now (they are operating out of a trailer in the parking lot) and hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Also had to wait for a chance to test the engine Im using for my Kadet. SuperTigre G51 I bought used on Ebay. Didnt want to freak the neighbors out here in the apt complex running it on a test stand and couldnt get to the field to run it there. Finally ran it today despite the neighbors.
Anyway, I hope to get it all finished soon, rebuild my truck, and get it in the air. Dying to see how the video system works out.

Hi, its me, kadetbuilder, just changed my user name.

Hard to believe its been six years since the original post!!!!!!!
Camera technology has moved on a LOT since then. My kadet has been in storage for most of the past six years.

Unfortunately she got a bit damaged and I'm doing some repairs to her at the moment. I have removed the camera pod, so she looks like a stock senior now. I also shortened and re-soldered the piano wire landing gear because I don't need the massive ground clearance without the camera pod. I beefed up the horizontal stabiliser as well, by adding balsa doublers on the leading and trailing edges. In its stock condition, the hor. stab is farily bendy.

I've cleaned out and rebuilt my os46fx engine with new bearings because the old ones had rusted in storage. I'm looking forward to getting back flying again.

I had my first flight today on the kadet and she flies a LOT better without the camera pod.
With a 12.25 x 3.75 prop, she slows down nicely for landing.

THe piano wire landing gear has bent slightly again in the same place as before, so I'm not sure what to do about that!.

Here are some youtube videos of my kit-built Kadet Senior from last night.
It has an OS .46FX engine running a 12.25 x 3.75 prop. Hitec Laser 6 radio gear with a 6 volt receiver pack. The plane is a 3 channel...doesn't have or need ailerons because of the dihedral in the wing. I have 4 inch dubro big wheels due to the bumpy landing strip!
