Put together my rocker boxes and cam gear drive and gave them a coat of finishing resin. I hope I will be assembling the engine this weekend.

have got all the engine parts in primer. I built the radiator this morning and am getting ready to cover the wings! I need to wash and prep the GT fabric tomorrow. Dave S. came over with a gallon of nitrate and butyrate last Saturday. Let the doping begin!!!

Dave and I did some more work on the DVs over the weekend. He mounted his top wing and did some adjustments to the wing alignment. He also
sheeted his wing stubs. I worked on my cowl. I have attached some pictures of the wing stub sheeting and of me doing some fine tuning of my cowl
with a rasp. Dave says the rasp is the secret to a really smooth finish and is also one of the secrets to how he is able to build so fast.

I heard a tip about applying dope. After applying it, turn the wing over and let it dry upside down. This way the dope settles to the top surface and requires less applications. Also it may help with the problem of sticking to the spars. I would still apply wax to them though. I think after the initial coats are complete the final coats could dry right side up but it sounded like a good idea.
Good luck. I found the fabric to be great fun actually.

Also Dave, any info on how you do the fuselage skinning?
I assume you use balsa? Thickness? Scarf joints or what? How do manage the more compound surfaces without getting kinks in the form? Glue used? Tricks you are willing to disclose?
Sorry about picking your brain so obviously but you ARE the master.

The radiator is really quite simple. It is just 4 1/16th plywood plates slightly taller than the airfoil. You just match drill (or if your lucky laser) a bunch of holes for the "cooling tubes". I use soda straws for those. The top frame and deck are 1/64th ply. It is primed in the picture. I will next spray the tubes with aluminum engine block paint and then mask them and paint the rest to match my chips.
Allan, the fuselage is 3/32" balsa sheet the panels are but jointed using Great Planes Thick CA. On the Albatros, the only real challenging part is the tail cone area. You can look back at Semeraro's rant on that:-). If you stick to the scale paneling in most plywood aircraft, the sheeting goes on pretty easy as they didn't design many compound curves in as that would make the plane harder to build. One trick on the sides is to use longer pieces of sheet for strength and then just score in the panel lines with a very sharp exacto. when you stain the fuselage the stain will accumulate and you will not be able to see the difference compared to a real joint. I just stained mine (finally!!) today and will post pictures in a few day once the tone of the stain mellows a little. It is horrifyingly dark when first aplied. I always almost panic. It is already looking much better. I like to let it set about a week before clearing.

I set up my aileron servos and linkages and soldered extensions. Finally ready to cover the top wing. I will try and remember to take some pix of the setup before I cover.
