while it might be a bit more complex... it's still not rocket science..nothing that you couldn't handle.. if you get the CF servo arms (more like plates that screw on your servo arms) from readyheli, it makes setting up the push pull a breeze.. just get the link pairs to the same length and it takes care of the spacing

my hurricane is on American soil hopefully the USPS will get it to me within the next 2 days...then it's a mad dash to prep for paint.. spray the base coat.. first top coat color (neon yellow).. mask.. shoot the second color...then either mask and add a candy color to give it some highlights and then clear coat it.. or just shoot 2 colors and clear...that will take a couple hours.. then take the heli apart and make sure it's put together the right way... and hopefully maiden it this weekend

thought I'd post a few pics of my new Hurricane 550!

here she is.. ready for blades and a maiden flight...

that is of course if the ESC wasn't DOA

I put Trex600 landing gear on her to give a wider stance.. here's how much wider the Trex600 gear is compared to stock.

painted the gear neon yellow to match the canopy and I need all the help I can get seeing these things as they fly through the air

I'm currently have 2* Aplus 2200 25C from Flying-Hobby and 2* HTX 2200 20-30C from Hobby City. I've been thinking about getting a couple of these ZIppy 3300mah 25C or maybe just getting this Zippy 3300mah 25C 6S1P or Zippy 4000mah 25C 6S1P thinking the 6S since I can put 2 of my 3S side by side currently and the canopy still fits.

for blades I currently have the Gaui CF blades. nice blades.. perfect balance and the CG was dead on.. might pick up some of these to try too TIG 500mm CF blades the price is right for CF a heck of a lot cheaper than CF blades I've seen at other places..

I like the pictures, here are a few of my heli. Maidend it weekend before last. Flies very stable. I painted it with different colors on each side to help me with orientation. Also included a pic of 3500 mah batteries mounted. Made a bracket to support the lower battery.

gpach: Make sure you cover those bullet connectors on the motor...

does that lower battery get in the way of the canopy mount?

The bullets were not fully engaged in the picture. I was still fitting up the ESC when I took the pics.

The lower battery doesnt interfere with the Canopy but I dont have the lower hook. There is no way for the canopy to swing up so I left the hook off.

Just got back from flying a couple sets of batteries through the 550. Was a bit windy for my skills but no incidents.

Got 8 mins out of the 3300's putting them back on the charger at 17%. Ran the 3500's but didnt run till the end of the timer. Eagletree shows 2750 mah pulled from the 3300's. Average head speed was 1750 RPM (1800 at start to 1700 at end) swinging 550 woodies. Gearing is stock with a 14t pinion. Have a friend that flys the 520's on his scorpion motor and he is running the same rotor rpm. I think I could get away knocking it down a bit. Curve is 90-82.5-75-82.5-90.

Overall a very peaceful machine to fly compared to the 450 that is a bit twitchy, especially in the wind.

Would post up the eagletree graphs but not sure how

gpach ,
I'm curiouse about the Eagletree , is this an on board monitor? I have a poly 4 charger that doesnt display the mah its putting back in the batteries, it would be helpful to have something that would let me know how much was used. Coould you ost a link to anywhere that would have info on it?
Thanks

Any online store. Look under "data loggers" or go to their web site. http://www.eagletreesystems.com/MicroPower/micro.htm

My battery chargers tell me how much I put back in but I like to be able to graph what is going on to compare blade lenght, head speed, amp draw etc. Here is a flight from yesterday. I was using 550mm blades. The inclining red line is mah used. Green, RPM, purple amps.

yes... the eagle tree will tell you how much you used..and if you get the LCD panel you can tell the logger to display mah used and get the data in real time. just hover in.. look at the screen and see how you've used. lets ya know if you need to land or if you have juice left for a few more circuits. Hobby City carries them.. so does readyheli..grandrc..and just about any hobby store that's worth shopping at.

I second the display, have mine mounted on the side towards the back. I dont have it set for mah but only to display the headspeed. More of a setup tool. You can make an adjustment to the curve and hover up and see the effect.

For the money, its one of the better tools out there if you like playing with gearing, headspeed, etc.

I am looking at the Scorption motor that my friends 550 has and I think it is actually more efficient than my Z20A-980. After some more test runs and comparisons I may end up getting one of them.

Hmm... I had heard the scorpions ran a bit hotter than the Z20

Side by Side test runs, ee both have eagletree's on. His machine weighs approx the same as mine. He posted an eagltree over at RCG forum. Not sure what run that was but we have both been tweaking for the last few days.

In yesterdays runs, me running 550 mm blades against his 520mm. He has the scorpion, me with the Z20 he came out with 290 ma per min. Min was running at 350. Today I ran it with 500mm in and the headspeed back up to 1800 RPM and I got it down to 300 mah per min but the machine has a lot less pop than the 550's. His scorpion with the 520's has about the same power as the 550's and the Z20, it just pulls less current. It makes sense though as the scorpion is about 10% more efficient than the Z20. His motor is not hot when it comes down. He is running the timer to 7 mins and then about 30 seconds to land. Mostly eights, rolls loops etc. Both of us run the 3500 mah batteries

Its handy having two machines side by side with only a couple things different. Gives you the chance to get a real life comparison. Especially with the loggers.

I think I will go back to the 550's and set the headspeed around 1700 RPM. This gives me a nice solid eight mins of flight with lots of power. What I would realy like to see is back to back runs, same machine, same motor first run with woodies, second with CF. Just to see how much better the CF are.
