I've had my eye on the Hurricane (and the T-Rex 500 and a few other 450 heli's) since September. I've purchased a Shark 450 so far and plan to pick up the new HDX and a few others soon, but have been holding off on the purchase of the Hurricane 550 until some of the bugs have been worked out.

I see that HeliDirect has it but what are other places to purchase the Guai Hurricane 550, both in the US and overseas?

By now there should be at least one smart supplier that now sells this heli with full CNC upgrades, Z30 motor, better ESC, proper pinion/gears along with the correct linkage lengths, correct screw lengths, and strong frame.

I'm ready to purchase one including a DX7 mode 2 and some Li-Po's, charger etc.. but have been waiting to find one place to buy a solid setup that has it all at one shot.

I have no problem with building a kit as I will take it all apart and put it together again anyway, but I think it's kind of stupid to buy a kit only to have to replace the stock parts during the build to make it a more solid and powerful performer...(the way it should be right out of the box).

Any help finding the best place to shop would be greatly appreciated.

LOL , any kit heli thats an arf RTF or any combantion of the two should be taken apart and re assembled, mine is stock I had no problems with any thing at all, it has great preformance far better than any HBK2. I didn't even notice there was any bugs just thought there were two many noobs who bought more than they could chew. It is a great kit backman has them but everone usally deals with helidirect ( in case you didn't know helidirect has an ebay store these this kit can be had for a best offer deal, you would be sick if you knew how little I paid for mine just make them an offer) AX

Flying hobby will put together any package you want... just go to their website, pick the package closest to what you want (yes they have a full CF and CNC package) then ask for some changes and they'll give you a price. They are in HK though so make sure to take shipping into account.

Thanks for the replies. I was on the Flying-Hobby site this morning and emailed them asking for a quote so we'll see. It will depend on what they quote, but so far, that seems like those kits are the best way to go. By the time I added up the parts at other places, frame, cnc head etc it was quite a bit. Either way I should be good to go by mid March at the latest.

Druss, I was only 20 min from Cornwall before we moved down here to TN. Man, I feel for ya not being able to fly outside year round.

Well I am upgrading my tail on the hurricane as my current stock one has developed a bit of slop and is not as precise as I would like. i went with a CF short boom, full cnc tail from helidirect, annd radix 92mm blades. Any reason other than ground clearance these blades won't work?

I had to turn the air conditioner on for a little while yesterday, got up to 84. Nice flying weather.

Should be ok. I was using the stock t-rex 600 tail blades for a while. To take care of ground clearance issues I used the tail fin from the 600 also. You'll have to drill the fin to get it lined up just right, but it's a pretty close fit.

I just want to say I love my new motor Z20A 980kv that replaced my stock one. I can fly easily 9-10 minutes with few flips, rolls and stall turns with my 3300 packs. I can even use my older 20c el cheapo 2200 packs and they are only warm after 6 minutes of flight, I haven't pushed them yet and will see how much flight time I can get. I am using the Gauis stock ESC and 500mm woodies. I notice a little higher head speed from the stock motor. The motor runs very cool even at 82 degrees at the field.

Nice, glad to see there are choices out there.

On another note, does anyone have experience with the Gaui 1100kv motor?

I am using the Gaui 1100 with gau 75 amp ESC. I have not programmed the esc so I think it is in governor mode. Im using a 13 tooth pinion with stock gearing and 85% flat curve in idle up. About 2200 headspeed. Motor comes down warm but not hot. Getting 7 minutes from 3300 20c packs, they come down about 110 degrees. Once I put my metal head on I will see what the motor can do and run a flat 100% curve. So far I am happy with it.

I have been reading about the 500 size heli since I got my little CP Belt. I WANT one, SIZE matters. I just discovered this thread. The 550 sure seems to be the most cost effective one in the class and reading this it sounds like it a great flyer. Before the thread I had checked it off my buy list because of a review on RCHeli mag. which in my interpertation made it sound just so so for quality and flight times, etc. I am still in the learning stages of heli flight and building. I have built a lot of planes. In general how is the kit quality and how clear were the instructions? Over all can you compair it to the TRex 500 or the Lipton. I have no interest in 3d, just sport flying and some scale stuff.

Thanks.

The 550 should be fine for sport flying. as for the trex 500, no idea as I don't own one but I do own a Hirobo Lepton. There really isn't much out there that will match it for quality but the parts are pretty expensive and the kit is $500 vs. the $250 for the hurricane.
