well I think I blew my stock esc at about 18 flights so it's down for a week or until the ups truck rolls through, 4 the money this is a great machine I am really happy with it, but it's starting to turn up alot at the field I wonder whats going to be the next big thing? hope it's a trex 700!!! l8r alll AX

ea01bg -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/20/2008 9:26:57 PM)

I've read some articles about a new Lipo process where they are getting much longer discharge times and fast recharge. as that trickles down to the RC hobby it should make larger Helis more cost affective.

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/20/2008 9:32:24 PM)

supposely 10 times longer discharge rate they talked about it on the all things thay fly podcast a few weeks ago.

fw190 -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/20/2008 10:36:38 PM)

Just for size comparison... My H550 and T500 with a friends T450

ea01bg -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/21/2008 10:35:24 PM)

AvoidingExpert ,
I couldnt find that podcast. Do you remember which one it was?
Thanks

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/21/2008 11:48:32 PM)

Magic Hook -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/25/2008 1:17:36 AM)

I just read the review of the 550 in RC Heli. Is it true the flight time is 3 minutes?

Cleared2Engage -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/25/2008 1:24:40 AM)

not on mine. using 2x 2200 mah 25C packs. Get 5 minutes with time to spare in reserve. Getting over 10 minutes on a pair of 4200 mah's.

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/25/2008 2:23:42 AM)

I am getting 6 min light 3d on a 7 cell 123 I have ordered a new bird to set up with Dewalt Lion I can't say fairly migh high head speed lipo's run 3 min

ea01bg -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/25/2008 5:15:56 AM)

Cleared2Engage ,
Is that on the stock setup? What Brand and C rating are the 4200 s ?

fw190 -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/25/2008 6:16:44 PM)

7s A123 (2300mah) 4-7 min
6s 2200 3-6 min
6s 3300 7-10 min

It highly depends on your flying style. If you notice the range also depends on your gearing, blade (CF or wood)... etc etc.\

The 3300s are my favorite, power and long flight times + perfect CG to boot.

Thunder Power 11.1v (x2) 4200 mah 15C. Running these two batteries in series costs almost as much as buying one of their 6 cell packs. Not too practical, but I have them laying around from my P-51 before I converted to glow. The Copter is pretty stock except for metal head and Pheonix 60 ESC

Magic Hook -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/27/2008 10:23:59 AM)

Thanks for the good info. I was hoping that a pair of 2200's would produce a little time. I love the size and the look of the 550 and have one all picked out for my next step. My plan was to use the 2200's I already have to avoid that expense. Looks like I need to re-think the plan and take a look at some of the 30 nitro birds if I want 10. min. Thanks again.

Scootist -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/29/2008 3:58:20 PM)

Well I think Im ready for it, got a hurricane coming monday hopefully. I've learned allot with my BH 450 but am frustrated with the quality of the heli (you get what you pay for) it's nothing major and it did teach me allot about building theese little buggers but the BH is going on the back burner while I learn to manhandle this massive beast.

blk822 -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/29/2008 5:25:09 PM)

I just got my Hurricane a few days ago and have already gone through it and set it up as far as I can. I am waiting on servos and then need to buy a gyro and tail servo. Can hardley wait.

Scootist -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/29/2008 5:53:15 PM)

I've got all the electronics but no heli yet lol. I still need a stepdown regulator for my tail servo

ea01bg -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (2/29/2008 9:26:49 PM)

Scootist,
I have a BH450 SE and havnt had a single problem quality related problem in over 50 flights. You will love the Hurricane its size makes it inherintly more stable than the 450's.

Scootist -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/2/2008 1:52:10 AM)

It's only hardware issues iv'e had with the black hawk the parts themslves are top notch, got my hurricane today I thought it would be here monday, its friggin huge I cant wait to get it togather.

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/2/2008 2:00:02 AM)

LOL they are a treat to build it goes very fast

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/3/2008 12:46:44 AM)

Sorry thought I would post some more size shots TREx 600 cf and gaui 550

fw190 -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/10/2008 10:04:06 AM)

Looks like time for update! Here is my new upgraded H550 with Custom Heli Products carbon fiber frame from Readyheli.com. I am now running 8s A123 (7s not enough) with the shorter tail conversion but still swinging 500mm blades and Trex 600 landing gears. All up weight is 2350grams with 8s A123 or 2240g with 3300 6s lipos. No mo 2-packs! and no mo series wire harness! 1 brick style pack, still can use my 3300 lipos and balancing the heli is easy with the new frame.

AvoidingExpert -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/15/2008 3:05:48 PM)

WOW looking good fw, I have 3 550 s now so I am going to put 2 of them in the market place if anyone is looking for another bird

The H550 has been a blast to fly and has been very stable when inverted compared to my HBK2. The shark is good upside down, but the 550 is better.. and the speed of it is just sick lol.
What are the specs on the ones your getting rid of?
I'm not really looking for another at the moment cuz I have plenty of extra parts, but if it's a good deal, I might be interested or know someone that is.
Also, if you are looking to get rid of any H550 parts, lemm know.
Thanks man.

blk822 -> RE: My Hurricane 550's first Hover (3/16/2008 2:24:02 AM)

Well I just flew my new 550 today for the first time. Man was my heart beating. I'm still just hovering my HBK2. Well wwhat a difference in the 2 helis. The hurricane is sooooo smooth and stable. I hovered for about 4 minutes and the batteries didn't get hot or even really warm. the motor got just alittle hot and the esc was fine also. I didn't fly the whole packs , because im still breaking them in also. Man what a nice heli.
