Fantastic job! Did you just take your time with the Dremel? How did you get the edges so smooth?

Thank's F4WILDcat. I used a dremel to rough it out and then 320 grit sand paper to smooth the edges.

Thanks Brew. I'm going to start with an 11/7 and see where it's at to start. I have a few 11/7's and 11/6's laying around so I'll try those first.

The weather here in the midwest is starting to get better finally. It has been a long winter. I was able to get the Sundowner out yesterday for an engine run and taxi test. This is the first time I ran the engine on the plane. I couldn't get it to idle slow enough to taxi on the concrete. I think it would have been ok in the grass. Running a 13X8 prop on a Saito .82. Anyway I am sure I will get the first flights in soon. Our flying field is still under water, so I plan on using a small municipal airport for the first flights. Just have to watch out for full size traffic.

Have fun all with the flight. I have not flown mine in 3 weeks. I have been working on other project and when I do go to the field I take my F-16 and Viper, negelcting my SD. After reading the last few post I need to charge her up and take to field 2morrow after church and rip the sky a little.

I finally flew mine today!!! it just took a couple clicks of trim and it flew like it was on rails. The saito 82 is pretty fast, but not as fast as I was hoping for. But all in all this is a very fun plane to fly and once I shake off the rust, I will have a lot of fun with the low high speed passes. Just wish it would slow down a bit for landings. Ended up flying off of a soft, soggy, grass strip today so that helped slow me down once I touched down. Can't wait to get it out again.

congrats Brew. I think we all had to work on our landing with the SD, I know I did and still work on them. Today I had 5 flight of the SD and all the landing were great except on last flight when I had some bounce. The more I fly this SD the more I like flying it. I think H9 has a winner with the little SD. I seen a few big SD at our field but some how all them went down in a crash.

OK...... finallllllly.......

I have a few photos of the Jett SJ-50 / SJ-60LX installation. This is pretty much what I had worked up on paper, and it appares to work quite well.

Muffler installs partially into the fuselage - through the electric cooling air opening.
Engine shown here has to be rotated SLIGHTLY to get the alignment right.

I am waiting on photos of the cowl and finished install.

Also... if you are going with big engines ----- take a few minutes to double check the firewall and glue joints.

More to follow...

Bob

I just ordered a sundowner 50 and was wondering what you use to cut the cowling? You did a great clean job!

Just a dremel with a small carbide bit and sand paper to clean it up! Due to the awkward shape of the cowl I honestly thought I would mess this one up the first time. I overcut the front, but you'll never see it in the air!
