Status: offline 		I have managed to find out what the issue with the failsafe was.  Almost embaressed to say .. but it was battery related!  The battery power was getting low and that was causing the failsafe to kick in.  I did try and change the batteries initially but they were obviously not strong enough.
There is, however, an issue with the receiver - which you program the failsafe it saves your settings but the moment you switch it off and on again those settings disappear and it's back to default settings.

I am going to look to get an upgraded radio and receiver anyhow so it's not a trainsmash.

Just ordered a set of ProLine Power Stroke shocks for Nitrage - can't wait to try them out!

Status: offline 		Hi Guys, just thought i'd share my Tamiya's.

The one I run has got a two speed, front brake, anti roll bars, pull start, TNX springs and upgraded servos, and she runs great...

The other one has got every Hop Up from Tamiya as well as titanium turnbuckles everywhere and stiffer shocks.

I have removed all play in the steering and suspension and they are both tight and slop free now.

I love them because they are Tamiya, very unique and they really do run very well.

Status: offline 		I took the Nitrage for a run this weekend at the local field.  I noticed that when i try and start it using the electric starter, the flywheel is not turning over even though the nut is turning.
Essentially the starter is just turning the nut and the engine isn't turning over so it wont start.

Any ideas as to what i have broken?  And how to repair it?

@ Jumpman, Sounds like its your one way bearing. If you have a starter box or know some one who has one you can get by with that, other wise you jus need to change out the one way, its an easy fix & only bout $15. Look in ur user manual and it will tell you how to change it out.

@ Everyone else, I managed to some how crack my damned gas tank the other day. Anybody know of where to get one for a decent price or another tank that will fit in there?

Status: offline 		Thanks for the reply Atomika, but upon close inspection i noticed that i had my facts wrong.  I tested it again at home and noticed that the flywheel was turning perfectly when i try and start it.

However, there was no compression.  So i took off the heat sink and had a look at the piston and sleeve.  In the middle of the piston there is a hole!!

So i have destroyed my engine somehow.  All i can think is that perhaps i was a little bit too hard on full throttle for too long.  I had run in the motor, it wasn't running too lean, ample air.  Maybe i pushed it too hard.

Anyhow ordered another piston and sleeve.....then will see from there!

Status: offline 		Mornin all, I am a total noob and have just purchased 2 Nitrages (hard to beat at $229)! I have read thru this entire thread and I am looking for some help. I would like to have a small selection of spare parts and also possibly install front brake and different shocks. Any answers to the following questions would be quite helpful.

1 - What oils should I have on hand for gear boxes,shocks, etc. 
2 - What spare parts should I plan on having - a bunch of noobs racin with slight bashing, mostly outdoors. 
3 - Is there an online source for one-stop-shopping or will I have to buy from multiple sources? Checked many sites out but not a clue yet, I have tried to find shocks but have had no luck.
3 - What parts are interchangable with other models to allow modifications? 

All in all it sounds like a great bunch of peeps here. I am lookin forward to sharing my journey into Nitraging !!! Oh, BTW - this is a great new hobby to start at the age of 63    !!!

Ouch dude, thats a bummer. Yeah these don't like to run balls out full throttle for long distances. I found that out the hard way as well. I managed to ream out the lower loop of my con rod which in turn punched holes in my crank case. It was $66 all together to replace both parts so it wasn't too bad. & jus fyi the Ofna Force .32 is the exact same motor & the parts are much cheaper than the Tamiya ones.

@Goat
Welcome to the highly addictive and expensive but incredibly fun hobby of RC. Buy'n 2 Nitrages was a good idea. You'll save money in the long run for sure. Out of all my rc's (I have 7) I'd have to say the Nitrage it's the most durable & reliable.

As for parts since you have a whole other truck to part from you oughta be in good shape for awhile.
Since I've had mine I've replaced:

The con rod & crank case (as I stated above that was from driving it to hard & too hot)
3 lower shockmounts
1 rear A arm
& I now need a new gas tank.
Both my rear shocks leak as well.


Get a temp gauge for sure. Don't let your engine get to hot. Also you'll want to get some high temp sealant (I used silicone gasket sealant for cars) and seal your engine. Here's a good vid showing you how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rncdYL-PBL4

Always use after run oil or WD40 after every use & also be sure to leave your piston in the down position after running. Leaving it at the top can cause binding as when the engine cools down the the crankcase will shrink, binding the piston to the top.

Be sure to clean and re oil your air filter after every run. I use the k&n red oil (the recharger kit for full size cars) Its fairly cheap and lasts forever.

Have shock oil of some sort. Since mine leak often I've jus used some old transmission oil I had lying around and it seems to work fine.

Get some shoe goo and coat the inside of the body. This helps to prevent cracks and if it does crack it keeps the pieces in place.

A fuel filter is always a good idea and inexpensive

Check the screws on the underside of the chassis after runs & locktite them as needed.

Be sure your fail safe is working and always have full batteries. Its not fun to watch your Nitrage take off at full speed across a parking lot or bash its way across your local track.

There are a few interchangeable parts. The Ofna Mutilator shares the same motor so pipes for that will work on the Nitrage.
The shock springs from the TNX will work on this & the tires are the same.

& fuel wise I run Byron's Gen2 Nitro 20% Lube 12%

I haven't been able to locate TNX springs, is there a site you know of that has them?

What is "shoe goo" ?

You mention Nitro 20% Lube 12%, the only fuel I can get locally says 20%. Should I be looking for a specific brand or is that something you have to blend yourself?

Status: offline 		@goat : with regards to shocks, people have recommended Proline Powerstroke Shocks. I bought a set off eBay.  I haven't had a chance to fit them yet and test, but a lot of people recommend them. I will let you know how I find them once they are installed.

You can get it @ Walmart, any hardware store or sports store. Usually runs between $5-$8 a tube. I use this stuff ALOT in this hobby. You'll prolly want to get a small tool box of some sort to keep all your tools, batts, lubes, goo's etc. in. I have a separate tool box for each of mine. These also work well for keeping your parts organized.:

As for fuel you should be fine. I ran traxxas fuel thru mine for quite a while but they only tell you the nitro content and not the lube. I switched over to Byrons as all the racers here swear by it. Some people make their own blend but I think thats more of a hassle than what its worth.

Oh and I notice you haven't gotten your Nitage yet. Break in is the most important part. Read thru your manual all the way. DONT GUN IT for the first 2 1/2 tanks. You'll want to do it lol, don't. Here's a good vid to watch:

The best spots for breaking in are vacant parking lots. I went to the top of a parking garage to do mine. That way you have plenty of room to work & run your RC for the appropriate amount of time. Be sure to get a temp gauge, you can do it with out it but its not advised.

& be sure you get a 7.2v battery for your starter as it doesn't come with one.

Status: offline 		Thanks again for the info Atomika - this has surely been a learnin process. Got about $80 worth of batteries(7.2v included) and chargers on the way and also a starter kit. Dang, can't wait for all this stuff to get here - I feel like a kid at Christmas 

I have found a couple sites for parts, JR-RC, StellaModels and Vellrip (also a couple ebay sellers) so I know where to buy additional items. Now that I have reviewed the kit manual, I will be ordering some parts trees to help us get through the process on learnin how to drive these things after we get things fine tuned. I know we'll probably tear some parts up so I'll invest another $50-60 then I won't have to wait for new parts to be delivered.

Thanks for all the input, you guys have been great - I'll keep ya posted as I progress.
