after feeling a new motor compression i understood why my stock hot bodies was slow/not running good...i just broke in my new axial with these steps
idle - 2 tanks
half throttle/stabbing full throttle - 2 tanks
ran on a small track and didnt let the engine get over 190 degree - 1 tank.......can i start to get on her yet ? because it seems to be a power house and im itchin too...directions say good temp range is 225-270 and its running pretty good at 190...

For break-in you want the engine to hit at least 200, then let it cool down completely with the piston at its lowest position...(take plug out, looking down in engine, rotate flywheel to point where pistoin is at its lowest, then mark a notch on your flywheel, say at 3:00, then you will always know where that position is.. You want the engine to cool with the piston always at that position..) And repeat... That's heat-cycling..

What you've done so far doesn't sound quite ideal.. I would do what I just described(heat cycling..), with a good 10 heat cylces with temps over 200 and complete cool down at BDC, then you can get on it..

I loved my Axial 28 when it was new too.. Was going very easy on it and was inadvertantly wheelying my Savage....

Good luck..

Get those temps up a little more or it will not break in properly. You think ti runs good at 190. You should see it at 250-270. Great engine.

Any one have any problems with their axail engines pistons disentegrating ? My .32's lower side wall cracked and fell apart after only five tanks including the 4 for break in . I replaced the sleeve and piston only to have the same thing happen again in less then 6 tanks .it happened on the left side if you were looking at the exhaust side of the piston . My axial .28 did the same thing but right at the exhaust port . I'm guessing that the piston bottom slammed into the small groove that was machined in the back plate of the engine . I was wondering if any one else has experienced this problem . I also have a Raceres edge sure fire .32 with a good season under its belt and have not had one single problem besides the mid range screw self adjusting < that was fixed quite promptly with a little teflon tape and ultra black sealent . I've shipped the .32 back to axial and theyre in the process of correcting the situation and as soon as i get a RMA # for the .28 it will be going back as well . I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this phenomenon ? Any input or ideas would help .

You did have those motors on t.d.c. when you pulled the back-plate
off, didn't you?

Yes the pistons were at top dead center . I make it a habit to pull the sleeve using the thick zip tie push up method brfore i pull the back plate off of any engine .To assure that I have no problems with clearance I have a Sure fire RE .32 A picco .28 and a k4.6 all at least a year old and have had minimal problems with them . As far as i can tell the RE sf and the axial .32 are the same engines thats why this has me stumped .

No problems with either one of my 32s yet.... They seem to run cool and make good power. I put an 086 pipe on this oneand it turns pretty decent rpm too. BB

Never had any problems with my Axial either. Aside from a air leak that is, but hey, all engines eventually leak. Anyways, it still has great compression and it seems to run better now than when new. It's got 2 gallons through it, working on a 3rd. Best engine I have ever had in terms of overall power and reliability and to think I only paid $100 for it.

Oh yeah, I keep the running temp in the 220-230F range because it seems to be happiest there. No need to run it hot if it isn't needed.
