Hello,

I just purchased and installed two HS-5625mg servos for use in my ailerons. One of the has a problem. Occasionally when the controls are moved to neutral from an activated position it pauses for nearly one second and then returns to neutral. Needless to say I won't be flying this plane until this is fixed. What should I do?

Thanks

I called your service department and didn't get much help beyond advice to look at everything bit the servo. That was a little frustrating but after testing the servo on every channel and every scenario I decided to try and use an extension with heavy gauge wire rather than the standard wire extension I had been using and presto the servo works perfectly. It does make sense that the digital servos need the heavy gauge wire to carry the increased information. Anyways I wanted to post this for everyones benefit.

How can I tell them apart after they are out of the bag? I have extensions and Ys, do the heavy
duty ones look different? I know these digitals
draw more amps and need the heavy ones. Thanks.

The gauge of wire is larger.

Tom, I suspect there is something else here other than the difference between heavy guage wire and standard. Unless your talking about a significant length of wire here it doesn't jive with my electronics background. Overall wire resistance is effected by guage -- the higher the guage the higher the resistance. The lighter the guage the higher the resistance. Given that piece of trivia I bet you would be hard pressed to measure the difference in resistance between 24 guage (probably standard and maybe lighter than standard) and 20 guage (probably heavy guage and maybe larger than heavy guage) over the average length of servo wiring. If your servo wire extension length is less than 24" and you consistently see the servo fail with a standard size extension and consistently not fail with a heavy size extension then you have a problem with your connections, not the wire size. There has been some questions about the Hitec Programmer's ability to program a digital servo with a long extension -- this is the 1st time I've heard that a servo's failure is based on a wire extension guage.

My recommendation is to re-evaluate your configuration with those servos, if they failed once they can fail again, and the next time your plane may not be on the ground.

That seems to be the general understanding among most RC'ers but according to Hitec, the HS-5625's idle current drain is actually less than the equivalent HS-625 analog servo and the HS-5925's idle and no-load operating current drain is less than the equivalent HS-625:

HS-625
Current Drain (4.8V): 8.8mA/idle and 400mA no load operating
Current Drain (6.0V): 9.1mA/idle and 500mA no load operating

HS-5625
Current Drain (4.8V): 3mA/idle and 400mA no load operating
Current Drain (6.0V): 3mA/idle and 500mA no load operating

HS-5925
Current Drain (4.8V): 3mA/idle and 190mA no load operating
Current Drain (6.0V): 3mA/idle and 240mA no load operating

I know the wire size is larger, but if I have all
standards or all heavy duty; how can I tell which
I have. Are the heavys bigger that the 5625 servo
leads?

The wire on the 5645's is 20G.

So, if the wire is the same size as the servo lead
they are standard or heavy duty?
Thanks.

20 guage is definitely heavy guage for servo leads/extensions.

Hilleja, I took your advice and continued to test the servo. It took about 10 mins but it failed again. Thank you for saving my favorite plane!!! I will be sending this servo back to Hitec for repair/replacement.
