I think I can see the rounded top of the side doors and a door hinge just in front of the stars and bars on both sides of the model. Anyone else see it too? I don't see any indication of even a scribed in window though. A gloss black circle would simulate that nicely. Part of the need for nose weight in models is that most models are over designed compared with their full scale counterparts. The full scale versions don't have to put up with ham-fisted giants picking them up and moving them around the airport or carrier deck. The only part of full scale planes built to take that kind of rough contact are the landing gear. You can lift and swing a model around by its tail surfaces with no worries that they are going to break off. You couldn't do that with a full scale plane. Since you don't really need to be able to swing a model around by its tail surfaces, manufacturers of ARFs and kits might be able to ease up a bit on the over design of structures aft of the C.G at least. Case in point. I bought a World Models Zero 60 and checked out the threads here on RCU to find that people were needing to add 11 to 13 oz to the nose to get the plane to balance per instructions. I decided to put the arf on a diet aft of the C.G. The first thing I noticed was that the fiberglass fuse had a lot of ply structure in it aft of the wing. It was conspicuously more structure than the ply structure in my Great Planes G.B. R2, so I removed all of it but the longerons glued to the fiberglass. This amounted to a weight savings of about 4 oz aft of the C.G. and eliminated the need for any nose weight and a net weight savings of about a pound. Zeros are one of those types that typiclly need nose weight because of the short nose on them. Plus, it didn't weakening the tail enough that I can't still swing it around by its tail surfaces to my hearts content. :) Andrew, can anything be done during the manufacturing process to lighten up the tail a bit especially on the models that need more noseweight than most?

In regard to upcoming 90-100" line of warbirds? What is this about? More warbirds in the 90" to 100". Someone fill me in on this.

Thanks Peter... I was just about to copy and paste the specs tonight. Glad you beat me to it. About other things. Yes we are planning a 90-100 inch line of birds. Our focus is still to round off the 70 inch 1.20 - 1.50 ish line of WWII birds. We will definately let you know as soon as we have decided which will be the first of out subjects in this range. Please be patient with this upcoming series and keep your suggestions roling in. I assure you the planes will be incredibly detailed. Lets keep this thread about the Skyraider for the time beeing. I will be in China and flying the model personaly in January. I will post pics of my adventures as soon as I return. The Video should appear on the website soon after I get back. [8D]

This is not true. Sorry Craig, but there are many, many videos showing ground crew man-handling the tails of full size planes to push them around..so yes you could do that. Most KMP planes are not over designed in the tail areas. In fact, there is very little balsa or ply in the tails at all. Case in point is the ME-109E. The only ply back there was an internal block to mount the tail wheel to. There are no formers. Nothing. For KMP planes at least, having to add nose weight is exactly scale as these planes are built closer to scale then any World Models or Great Planes(Top Flite is not included in this) arf out there. Real plane engines are heavy...period. In order to keep scale outlines, weight is needed in some form usually up front. Other manufacturers may build their planes to look kinda close to scale, but they cheat and do things to make them either fly easier, or balast without weight by shortening the tail section, or other no scale things.

tail wheel unit,still looks shi&%..just a piece of wire hanging out there..wonder if they can't improve on that aspect of the model...most of there models,it's the same doggone thing...everything on the model looks good,then you look at the tail wheel, and yuk...Of course KMP isn't the only one who does it..others do it also....just my 2 cents worth

I agree that the tail wheel assembly certainly can be made to reflect scale assemblies. We have some limitations though to what is available where we make the kits. I can assure you that when we start making 90-100 inch aircraft we can make this area more scale like as well as afford to include better hardware in the assembly. We will work on sourcing more scale type tail wheel assemblies for our 70 inch range of aircraft. We could put more expensive (also heavier) tail assemblies but it seems that the bulk of our customers are happy to put in their preferred assemblies or even convert to retractable tail assemblies. Many of the planes need a good amount of nose weight already and we don't want to complicate things by adding too much more weight to the tail by adding more sophisticated tail gear. Its hard to please everybody but we may be able to offer an option in the near future. Cheers,

Yeah, everybody wants a scalemasters true to scale ship on a beer budget. Keep them light and strong and flyable and let us worry about the extra crap we'll throw on them.

AKondor, you guys make beautiful birds. When making scale warbirds you have to stop at some point before it get rediculous. I would rather have a plane that is not at perfect 100% scale but flies well without any bad tendencies. Also some good QC goes a long way! Making sure all the parts are there, that they all fit and the manual is up to date, 3 snags I ran into with my JU-87.

HI: We're working on the manual for sure. We have somebody that does our EAM manuals from Detroit. You can take a look at them on our website and compare them to our warbird manuals. Let me know what you think. We are constantly working with the factory to makeure the QC is a priority. They are very good at sending us anything we need to replace a product for our customers if something rears its ugly head. I'll pass on the feedback to our factory once again. I will be there in 2 weeks and I will tell them to read the thread here as well.

I just watched a movie about a month ago that had a sky raider in it..... I was enjoying the cool plane fly around droping bombs on VC when he got shot down!!! The rest of the movie was about how he became a prisioner of war.... Christian Bale was starring.... can't remember the movies name though... It was a failry recent release........ The highlight of the movie was the begining when they were flying the skyraider! The rest of it sucked!!! I emediatly thought of Adam and when KMP was going to release this cool, kind of ugly plane!!! It is funny how a movie can make you have interest in something when you didn't have much interest in before!.... Kind of like when (RIsky business) the movie, came out and those funny reflective glasses that Tom Cruise were sold out every.where!!! Anyway.... I like the plane now.... Justin

Just went to the site as of the time stamp of this post. Works fine for me. Did yesterday as well. There was a few weeks ago that it didnt work for me. BTW...showed the wife the plane....and..well...shes said..... "ehhhh not a pretty plane!" Guess it wont come home to this hangar......but theres plenty other KMP planes that DO look nice :) Looking forward to a larger ME-109(or even a F or G version)
