Status: offline 		Hi, I met Andrew at the Toledo show and Picked up one of these puppies. I think the model is great for the every day flier and one should not be so picky about all the details. These models were not intended to compete in scale contests. If that is your goal than build your own then all the details can be included. However Andrew I would add that if you go to the trouble to make the aluminum wheels they could look a little more scale instead of just drilling holes in the hubs. Cant wait to get mine finished.

Status: offline 		it didnt come with hinges for the gear door wheel covers, only for the one that is in front of the strut with the gear down, has a pin hinge in center and is attached to the strut with springs to stretch away from strut when retracted. I have found some tam jet offset door hinges that I think I am going to use on my main door covers, not sure how I am going to operate them yet though. They are plastic which was a little disappointing. but i will work with it. I have put the servos in one wing panel and gluded the hinges and control surfaces on, cant take pictures because my camera broke tonight guess i gotta get a new one so i can keep you guys up to date. gonna fly on saturday, taking my son out with the trainer, and going to break in the motor somemore.

Status: offline 		Actually looking at my Skyraider book a lot of these Skyraiders had the wheel well doors removed. I may just leave those off. I dont really see the need for the additional headache of using the doors unless you are competing in a contest with one.

Enough about the doors on the side of the fuse. After all there were only 22 real Skyraiders made that way. They were radar/countermeasures equiped planes and the doors were crew access for the radar operators. The rest of the skyraiders had dive brakes where the doors were and were a lot larger. Use a # 2 pencil and draw the outline of either verson. Andrew how many photos did you have to go through to find one with your initinals on the tail? That was a nice touch, Cool. Great model and flys great too!!!!

Status: online 		The point is the plane in question, the one modeled, did have the door on the side of the fuse...


Never the less we haven't been talking about the fuse door, rather the landing gear doors.

Status: offline 		well finally got a new camera. havent done too much been busy but i got one wing panel nearly done, servos in and surfaces hinged, retract in and gear door on, Just so ya know I havent said anything about the side door at all, I have said that the wheel well doors are made out of plastic, kondor is there any way we can get fiberglass gear door covers instead of plastic. I want to install them but not plastic, or if anyone wants to make some out of fiberglass let me know, i am interested in a set. The springs for the front door dont work they are too thick and wont let the gear retract all the way because there is not enough clearance between the strut and the cylinder of the retract, i used fishing line on mine, just tight enough to pull slightly in the retracted position. i took a couple of pics. here is the progress.

Status: offline 		Thank goodness you got a new camera .. I can't wait to see how all the panel lines lay out.. What type of clear do you spray over everything?? It's fuel proof??

Oh - also, how is your control horn installed? Cut straight into the control surfac??

I like all the details.. Starting to look like a good old "dirty" skyraider...

Status: offline 		yea tom the comtrol horns are tam jet horns, i just cut strait into the control surface and glue the horn in very strong and no screws on the top side.

Status: offline 		Did some more to the skyraider, got the other wing panel setup, and glued the wing halves together,so far so good, here is a couple of pics. picked up a robart vavle set today, got the variable vvalve so i can slow them down some. the flaps are going to be on seperate channels since the servos had to be mounted opposite, the servo hatches they send are the reason,i already programmed the 9303 radio and all is well. next I will mount the wheels, align and set flat spots on struts so they dont rotate when they arent supposed to. next i will start on the fuse. ran anothe gallon through the rcv120, still tight but thats all i am going to do till i fly. I have 2.5 gallons through it already and can get about 1400 rmp idle reliably. that is with a 18x14 apc prop.

Status: offline 		i used 4-40 threaded rod so its threaded on both ends, when i get them where i want them i inject thin CA to hold the position, lock tight.
