a freind of mine purchase a nitro plane model , zero fighter 80 wingspan and he got 3w28 engine the entire plane weight 18 pounds, is sombody know how to calculate the right engine for the weight of the plane, exemple if i got a plane about 20 pound what size of engine i should use, thank you

The 28 would probably fly it, the Zero lists a 40-50cc motor required. I am looking at one for myself, I have a 45cc gasser for it.

I have the CMP 80" zero 50cc. Be careful of installing too small of an engine. I installed a Zenoah G-62. The desighn of the CMP Zero has such a short nose moment ( how far forward is the firewall from the leading edge of the wing) that extra weight is need in the nose to balance the plane. Even with the 62cc motor I still had to add an extr 32oz. of lead to the nose of the Zero to get it to balance. I feel I chose an excellent engine because the Zenoah G-62 pulls the Zero through the air with power to spare. The flying characteristics are awesome. The plane is a great, fun plane to put thjrouigh it's paces.

Not all gassers are created equal.

The instructions for the CMP 540T 50CC call for a 40-50CC engine.

I installed a ZDZ50 NR in mine and this is almost too powerful for the plane, yet it's weight was perfect.

I believe that the instructions called for the bigger engine, to offset some of the lower bHP ratings of some of the Asian gas engines...

Your best bet is to see what other similiarly sized, weighted & wing loaded planes use for engine choices.

I think if you want something inexpensive, a U.S. 41 should fly it nicely and give it the nose weight needed to balance. You can find them here in the classifieds used for cheap $$

What about Saito FG-36 ? I just ordered this model from LHS and I have a NIB Saito FG-36 on hand . Do you think that it has enough power for CMP Zero 80" ? Or should I look for another alternatives such as DL-50 or Zenoah 45GEI ?

Best Regards
