2 1/4 worked out with about 1/8 between cowl spinner plate

will these length stand offs for the 26ssr also be an ideal length for the baby extra?

How much does that 3W-28 weigh? My Edge came in at 10lb 3oz with an Evolution 26gt with side mount muffler. Stock gear witch is a little light but still going after 20-30 hops. No wheel paints. I made a battery shelf in the truttle deck behind the canopy and can move my CG from in front of the wing tube to behind it just by moving the 2 cell LiIon battery around. The plane has plenty of wing to carry 12lbs as your video showed but it still seems pretty heavy.

Speaking of the baby Edge and engine weight, we're trying out a new 26cc gas engine on a baby edge. It's in assembly now.

The engine is a DZY 26S. We flew it several flights in a 12 1/2-13 pound Cap this weekend. While it will not pull the wings off, it was easy handling and reliable. Nothing fell off or went wrong, even with no engine cooling in 98 degree Texas weather. The Cap was adequately powered for IMAC basic or Sportsman.

This little engine weighs about 2 pounds including the ignition and muffler, so an under-10-pound flying weight is possible with the Edge. If it works out as I hope I may start selling this combo. We'll probably have an engine/muffler/airplane/hardware combo for under $600, at least for a while, as long as I can afford it.

IF we can get it down to about 9 1/2 pounds I think this thing will really perform.

Stay tuned.

TF

Funny... My baby edge with a Brillelli 26 came in at 9.8 lbs. Very good combo with plenty of pull-out from a hover.

You guys that have been flying it; did you simply screw in the horizontal stabs, and if so, have they loosened up any? I'm talking about the fit of the c/f tube in the fuse and on the stabs.

I'm at that point in the build, and figure that gluing them in is a bit of extra insurance. I have no need to remove them for transport, but then again, if one side gets crunched, it would be easy to replace, etc, if I didn't glue them.

This (stab loosening, with subsequent degradation of flight performance) was/is a big problem with some other planes; notably, the H9 Extra 260 and ShowTime. I have both, with MANY flights each and glued stabs, so it hasn't been a problem for me with those models.

Just wondering if I should do it on the bunny...

I installed the new carbon graphite landing gear from Ohio Carbon which looks more rigid and will not bend like the original issue gear.

How's this working out? It is the #249 offering on Graphtech's website, yes?

I've never heard any reports of stabs loosening.

I second Toms comment.
To get this in and out of my car I have to take the elevators off every time.
I check the bolts every flight and have never found these loosening up in any way.
I do have the standard bolt, lock washer, flat washer on a rubber washer into blind nut to hold it in.

Oh and if you damage one of the surfaces you can easily replace it. Glue it and it's more work.

To clarify, I wasn't talking about the bolts; I'm referring to the fit of the tube in the fuse hole and the fit of the stabs on the tube.

But I hear you guys; I'll leave them un-glued and keep an eye on 'em.

Has anyone used the GraphTech c/f gear as described earlier in this thread? If I'm reading the site correctly, their order # is 249; anyone confirm that?

Thanks; time to order it.

Got the horizontal stabs/elevators done, elevator servos installed and the linkages hooked up with preliminary adjustments. Also got the Ohio Products Haigh tail wheel unit fitted; the rudder and its servo will be the last thing I do.

Waiting on two aileron servos, a new battery pack, and the GraphTech gear.

Anyone know what the thread of the wing bolts is? I thought it was 10-32, but apparently not...

1/4-20 I'm pretty sure, that's what we use on all our planes.

Duh. So much for my "calibrated eyeball"...

I wanted to use some 1/4x20 allen head nylon bolts I have. I looked at the provided black nylon "thumb screw" bolts and said, "Nah, those are some odd-ball thread"...

So I read your reply and tried the allen heads... guess what?

She's coming along nicely. The 9252s for the ailerons showed up today; got them in tonight. I'll do the aileron linkages tomorrow; its too bloody hot to do anything outside.

Once the c/f gear arrives, it will just be a matter of installing that, and buttoning everything up.
