Just thought I would let every Yak lover out there know that I just completed the 102" with a DA-85 and the Jtec large volumn muffler. I was concerned about balance. With the muffler way up front and 2 reciever, 5 cell 1700 ni-cads, and 1 1700 4 cell ignition battery mounted in the engine box, it balanced right on the money. I also only used 1 rudder servo to minimize weight behind the wing tube.
The fuselage and stabs are Gen 2, and the wings are Gen 1.
Total dry weight is 24lb. 6 oz.
Hopefully it will have enough power, but I have yet to test fly it do to snow and extreme cold.

Well, I braved the cold and snow and flew the maiden today.
Fired up the DA-85 for the first time and I could not believe how smooth it was. I was shocked, it seemed as smooth as my DA-100. After a little tweeking of the needles, I took off over a snow covered runway (yeah I'm nuts).

Power seemed to be pretty close to the DA-100, but I didn't push it on the first flight. I was skepticle at first, but I think this is going to be a good combination after the motor gets broken in.

Well,

that are really good news!

I recieved a part of my new Gen3 on friday, the rest must be there tomorrow ( there was a transport mistake)....

I'm still not decided between the DA 85 and the 3W 85XI CS, but i has time because i have exams to prepare

Would it be possible to get a few pics of the engine/muffler installation? Did you encounter any problems installing the powerplant?

Thanks,

David

I dont think you can go wrong with either motor. I know the DA-85 works great. A couple of picks.

Thank you!

Wow you really maidened your plane in the snow

I can't use a pitt's muffler like you did because of the noise restrictions here, I will have to work out a solution for that because i have to use a muffler which has 80mm diameter or a pipe that would be very long...

Eraser, what does the Jtec muffler weigh?, or do you have a part number?. What servos did you use? I was thinking DA-85 w/mtw td75 can.
