I have a used OS 120 surpass with a pump and here is the problem how to hook up the pump. There is one line that goes from the pump nipple to the carb that is hooked up and another that goes from the crankcase to the intake pipe. That leaves two nipples left. One goes fom the fuel tank to another nipple.that leaves one nipple left that I haven't a clue where it goes.
The muffler has no nipple on it so I know it doesn't go there. Please would someone help me out.....Thanks

You need to figure out which model engine you have as the first step. The Surpass I and Surpass II are similar, but the in, out, and return connections are different.

The Surpass I has three nipples that come out of the rear cover. The Surpass II has two straight nipples, and the one nearest the bottom which turns upward at a 90* angle. When looking at the rear of the engine, with the cylinder in an upright position, the fuel nipple at 2 o'clock is the inlet on both versions. The nipple at 5 o'clock is the return on the Surpass I, and it is the outlet (goes to the carb) on the Surpass II.

I suggest you get a copy of the manual. You can email Hobby Services, and they will send you a .pdf version, or send me a PM with your email address, and I'll send it to you. (I got mine from Hobby Services.)

Thanks Ken6PPC for the return.I think what I have is the Surpass 1 as it has three nipples.
I looked on the engine and there is no 11 or 111 It says OS FS Series on one side and FS120 Surpass on the other. The pump as you look at it from the bask has three nipples.
one at 3 O'clock, one at 6 o'clock and one at 9 o'clock. The one at 9 0"clock was hooked up to the carb already but the others were just nipples stright out the back.If you could email me the manual and any enfo you know it would be much appreciated.
My email is stratosman@comcast.net
Thanks Again

Manual sent!

It does sound like you have the Surpass I. If you find out that it is the other version, let me know. I have the manual for it as well.

I have been very happy with my 120 Surpass I with pump. I have been concerned that I might have problems with the pump, but I haven't - at least so far! Like you, I bought my 120 used, and I have had it for a little over a year.

Here is some discussion regarding the OS 120 with pump over on the Engine Manufacturers Forum:

Hi! startosman,

I'm not sure what type of engine you own now. But I expect that it might be Fs-120-sp. Is it this type?

I've got a Saito 1.25 in my Seagull Edge. It originally had an OS 91 FS in it, but the 1.25 is a much better match for this plane.

I'm sure you will like your Edge with the 1.20!

One of the best ways to determine whether your pumped engine is a I or a II is to look for a brass screw in the center of the rear cover. That screw was to adjust the pump pressure on the Surpass I. The Surpass II didn't have the brass adjustment screw.

The scary part about these OS pumped engines is the fact that OS never did release parts for the pumps to the public. On top of that, pump parts for the Surpass I and II are no longer available!

Like I stated earlier, I haven't had a problem with mine yet, but it is probably just a matter of time. However, if I ever DO need to replace the pump on my Surpass I, I'll just use a Perry VP-30. I read that it will work with the Surpass I. That is not possible on the Surpass II, because the regulator is in the carb on the Surpass II, and would require a new carb. It isn't available either!

If you look at the pump, you'll see that the nipples are labeled. One is labeled "IN", one is "OUT", and one is "R". "IN" comes from the fuel pickup in the tank. "OUT" goes to the carburetor. "R" is the fuel return line, and it should dump at the front bottom of the tank. Your tank will need three lines: fuel pickup, vent, and return. The vent line should go from top, forward inside the tank and be routed out the bottom of the aircraft. The fuel pickup line goes from the "clunk" and goes to the "IN" nipple on the pump. The return line is described as above.

Fueling is usually done with the fuel pickup and overflow is through the vent line. Some people add a fourth line to the tank for fueling, and cap it when it's not in use. It can exit anywhere in the tank.

It was my understanding that the Surpass I had a regulator built into the carb...? It has been a while so I don't quite remember.

Does anyone have a spare pump for this engine?

The original version O.S. FS-120 Surpass with the brass screw in the center of the pump had the regulator in the pump housing. The FS-120 Surpass II had the regulator in the carburetor body.

To get a manual, please send an email to the address below and let us know which version of the engine you have.
