Well, the weather here is slowly improving and the snow is melting this means that soon i hope to have my 400 back in the air. As it all seems a little quiet round here, other than rev trying to raise the dead, i was wondering if anyone has a 400 in the air at the moment. If so, wheres the videos?!

After the initial break in progress according to Manual the Aussie 400AR is doing 7.350 rpm with a 20x8. It is -10C outside, the engine is still running very rich and has only 20 running minutes on the clock so I am sure these numbers will improve considerably.

I am very happy

@tom: love your list. been through it a couple of times in times of cold turkey

like I said, still running very rich, have not tuned it to top RPM yet.

To be honest, I am getting old. A couple of years ago -10°C wouldn't have kept me from being at the field and flying. Today it just seems so much cosier in my workshop

A cup of hot earl grey, some motivation and warbirdradio on the Laptop and you are ready to go.

When I did the after season check on my Stearman I found at least two broken stringers at the rear of the fuse. Due to the fact, that I have fallen deeply in love with this plane I wanted to redo it anyhow to here goes

I just received mine from HK today, a new engine for new upgrades ° ))  will fit  a PRECEDENT T240 as test-bench. I don't think I will have enough time to make a mirror as Tom, but the 1st step will be ball bearings replacement by "European quality"

Hi Olivier! A T240 seems an unusual plane for a radial but heck, no more unusual than a Fly Baby.

My Pacer and Jayracer are not the norm as flying test benches either! But, i cannot afford another engine right now. unless i can sell the 450. But, the 450 is going in the Jungmeister and rev you are putting me to shame with the speed of your build!

Gentlemen, miracles still happen.

I recieved a set of cam followers from just engines today. Brilliant service as usual. Unbelievably, the Chinese have actually taken an existing part and made it BETTER! The new followers are flat bottomed as to not eat their way into the cam drum. I am genuinely impressed. Have ordered more for my own engine as to exchange the drill bits that are still running in it .

After putting them into the 400 I am currently working on I turned it and it greeted me with the clickety-click that I only know from the big Mokis. Must be the new followers.

My friend just sent me this link...looks like another 400 in the air and a vid I have not seen! Although the vid is not very high quality you can see the 400 has no problem dragging this giant top flight p47 around.

I tried selling the 450 but noone wanted it also it is a really nice engine (apart from the amount of fuel it chews up) and i think i finally got it running well last time out. Also my Jungmeister is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. So its going to get the minimum work needed to get it in the air just to see if it will in fact fly. If its ok then i will do it up nice. But right now its annoying me alot as the guy who built it made a mess of it

The problem you're having is that Horizon discounts the 450R3 to $1359 shipped right now. The usual private individual listed price of FA450R3s for sale NIB is around $1200 + shipping.

When all is said & done, most won't risk having no warranty (even if the engine is still NIB) for less than $100 difference in price. Bench run 450s should bring considerable less than that.

BTW Here's some relief for the 450R3's thirst.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iERCMNum7XY Makes about 6.2 HP & 38# of thrust too. Nice power boost.

in the uk noone discounts engines like that so its about £1300 no matter where you go.

Also the cost of the CDI units is more than a years supply of 5% glow fuel so its really not worth it over here.

Evening guys,

so whats going on around the world?

I took my two 400s out last saturday to fine tune them after breaking both in. It was, again, very cold at -5° C and slightly raining/snowing all the time.

Both engines are now running @ 7450 rpm with the 20x8 which is fine with me. Warmer weather should bring some more rpms. Anyhow, it was darn cold in that propstream...
Stupid me forgot the 20x10 at home would have liked to tach that too. Now both are filled with conservation oil and tucked away on the shelf till I have a Model for them.

when family and work lets me I am doing some baby steps on the stearman Hows that Flybaby coming, Tom?

Rev
